Permission

- 3 Months Before -

~Josh's POV~

I picked up the phone to call my parents. I was actually shaking a little bit. Colleen, at the time, was out shopping with Teeny and Rachel. I told Rachel and Cristina to stall her for a while so that I would have enough time to talk to her and my parents.

"Hello?"

"Hi Mama."

"Hello Joshua. Do you need something?"

"Well actually, could you get dad on the phone also?"

"Sure thing. Hey Greg?" I waited patiently and in the meantime, I sat down at the couch and was hugging a pillow.

"Hey son. What's up?"

"Well...I was just thinking...um...do you remember Colleen?"

"Why of course! She's a very sweet girl!" Said my dad. Okay, so he likes her. Phew.

"So um, I really love her too, and um...well, she's the love of my life. And I uh..."

"Son, you can tell us anything you know. But if you need to, take a deep breath first." I did as he told me to.

"I think I should propose to Colleen." There was a couple seconds of silence.

"...is that okay?" I heard sniffling and my dad was whispering to Mama to calm down. Uh oh.

"Of course it is Joshua! I say just go for it; if you think it's time, then is most definitely probably is."

"Thank you so much!"

"Of course son." I smiled to myself.

"I love you guys. Bye"

"Goodbye Josh." And then I hung up. Now all I need to do is ask Colleen's parents. I walked over to the little shelf next to the door and grabbed my keys and wallet, and then left the apartment and drove to Colleen's parents' house.

- 15 Minutes Later -

I took a deep breath before knocking. This was so nerve racking. If her parents said no, I have no idea what to do. I took one last deep breath, then knocked. Her father opened the door.

"Oh. Hello Joshua. What are you doing here...especially without Colleen?"

"I um, wanted your permission to...um...well let me start at the very beginning: Colleen, your daughter, is the love of my life. She is beautiful and I love her even more each day. She is the sweetest girl I have ever met, and I don't know what I would do without her. So I wanted permission to...propose to your daughter." Tim sighed for a second. What was he about to say?

"I'll be right back." I waited outside in the doorway awkwardly, not knowing what he was going to do. He came back out with his wife, Gwen.

"So Josh, he told me that you wanted to propose to our daughter." I nodded.

"Well..." She looked at Tim.

"You have my permission to marry my daughter." Said Colleen's father. I was so happy and I gave them both a little hug.

"Thank you guys!" They nodded and waved as I drove back home happily. Now I just need to get the ring and plan out when I'm actually going to propose!
