Texas has been ravaged by wildfires. Every fire station A shift team had been pulled into the areas where the fires were. Austin 126 was pulled to San Angelo, where the fire was continuing to spread. They had been there for three days and making no progress. The chiefs had sent out word to neighboring states for help, with many answering right away. They would be arriving in the next day or two.
Buck was leaning on a tree listening to the incident commander tell each team where to go. Winter wasn't there since they were having to help with Medical after the volcano. Last week was a mess. People called saying there was lava around. The one call that was the reason for Winter staying back was a pool party. The volcano had erupted there and lava balls had been launched. Tim was trying to help a kid when one flew right in their direction. Owen and Buck tried to help, but they were too late. Tim had been right in the way and didn't survive when it hit. The team still was dealing with Tim's death when they were called out. Tommy had grabbed Winter and told Owen that they were trained to help with Medical.
Good news, though. TK was back, so the team still had enough people to help out. Buck wasn't alone without a partner and TK could match Winter's chaotic mood. He had been back for about three weeks and got on pretty well with Winter. Carlos paid for it, though. When TK and Winter were put in the same room together, no one knows what mischief they would get into. TK had shown Winter some funny mistakes Carlos had made, which introduced the nickname, 'Blue Rodeo' created by Winter.
Buck had stuck around TK when they arrived in San Angelo, making sure he didn't get into trouble. He had promised Carlos to look after the chaotic man, after all. The only wild thing TK had done so far was trip over a small hole and pop right on up, and gave a thumbs up to Buck before walking away.
Other stations had started to show up, more and more firefighters dressed in each of their turnouts coming to the command center. The 118 was the last to show up. A new captain had hopped out, followed by Eddie, Hen and Ravi. Chimney hadn't signed the papers to let him go, so he stayed back to keep an eye on Chris with Eddie's new girlfriend. They were in the front and Eddie instantly spotted Buck, who was still leaning on the tree. Each captain introduced themselves and their teams.
The commander gave them instructions and set them on their way. Eddie made his way over to Buck and Hen followed suit. "Hey Buck, how are you doing?" Eddie said.
Buck jumped, not expecting Eddie to be there, before hugging both of them. "I didn't know you guys would be here! Where's Chim? And who's the new Captain?"
"I am Captain Murphey, and you must be Evan Buckley. It's nice to meet you, given the circumstances," Captain Murphey had followed Eddie and Hen to see where they were going and heard Buck, so he decided to take it upon himself to give the introduction. "Chim couldn't make it. He never signed the papers, so he's helping Eddie's new girl watch Chris." Hen replied.
Eddie smacked Hen and turned to Buck, a blush obvious on his face. "I have to hear all about her. After we fight this fire, though. You guys should visit the station before heading back," Buck said before being called over by Paul. His team was listening in to a call where a Wilderness camp was right in the way of the fire and there were 7 campers and one adult. They were talking about how to save them when Judd spoke up. "Sir, sorry for eavesdropping, but I could take some people and drive ATVs up there. I have driven on terrain like this."
"Sir, you just became the Strike team leader. All you need is a paramedic and you can go."
Eddie spoke up, "I can go. Eddie Diaz of the 118."
"Are you a paramedic?"
"No, but I was a medic in the Army."
"Alright, you got a medic. Now hurry up before the fire shifts."
