(A/N: TW// Homophobic and transphobic slurs. Also implied s3x work, even if it is a joke.)
Being in the LGBTQ+ community in Texas is not as welcoming as some may think. Buck has dealt with his fair share of homophobes when he is out with his partners. He put it upon himself to watch out for Winter, making sure none of them homophobes got to them. Which led all of them to now...
They were on a call where a man had fallen out of a tree trying to 'get to know'(his words) the new lady next door. He had lost his footing and fell a few feet to the ground. Winter, who was also being trained on the paramedic field, had taken to assessing his injuries with the assistance of Captain Vega. Buck was reminiscing of the time where he fell out of the tree and was telling Mateo the story when he heard a commotion.
The man was trying to get away from Winter and was yelling asking for someone else to check him over. "Sir, you need to let Firefighter Mabrey check you over. They know what they are doing." Captain Vega had tried to calm him down.
TW// Transphobic slur, can skip if you want
"I don't want a fuckin' tranny touchin' me! Get me someone new!" The guy yelled. Winter had taken a step back and was shaking. They had been called slurs before, but never on a job and never with such venom.
Buck came running over and stood between the man and Winter. "Sir, please calm down." Captain Vega tried again. Buck was trying to calm Winter down before turning to the man. "Sir, I don't know what your problem is, but you can either allow Winter here to check you over, or be in pain while we transport you to the hospital. So you can stop with those comments," Buck tried not to growl it out, but his words came out more menacingly than he expected. The guy had recoiled back, before wincing at the movement. "Why can't you do it, if you're so keen on me getting checked out by the tranny?"
Buck smirked, "Sir, I'm not trained for paramedic work. I'm just a humble firefighter. Plus, I don't know if you want my hands touching you. I am a homosexual, after all and my boyfriends get jealous when I touch other men". Winter let out a small laugh and Tommy was shaking her head, trying not to laugh. The guy glared at Buck before looking around. The whole team was walking up by this point, after Mateo went to find Owen. "Are you the captain of your station, sir?" Owen was asked.
"Yes, I am Captain Owen Strand. What seems to be the problem?" Owen already knew what was happening. Buck had a protective stance around Winter and was glaring at the man, while Tommy was calling Nancy over with the stretcher. Tim was in the back of the rig getting everything set up. "Are you aware that you allowed Faggots on your team? I suggest ridding the station of the disease."
Nancy was trying not to roll the stretcher of his feet on 'accident'. She hadn't told anyone, but she was pansexual. The words of that guy were seriously making her want to out herself just to tell him off. "Sir, that is not your problem to worry about. Now, let the paramedics check you out." Owen said.
"Why not one of you? I don't want their sin touching me". The team shook their heads. All of them stated that they weren't certified, which they were, considering most firefighters had to be certified to help with medical depending on the situation. "The only one who can help you, is Firefighter Mabrey. Now, are you going to let us check you over, or are you wanting to ride to the hospital in the amount of pain you are in?" The guy huffed out a sound before saying that he would go in the pain he was in.
The ride back to the station had been silent. Everyone replaying the call. Winter took it worse. They usually didn't let transphobic words hurt them, but they had been so carefree about not having to worry that they let their guard down. Buck noticed the shift in Winter's attitude when they got back to the station. Winter was more closed off again, and Buck knew they were trying to rebuild the wall they let down. He himself had done that when he had been confronted by Nash back in L.A. and again with his parents. He wouldn't let Winter fall onto the same path he did, so he decided to talk with them.
