Chapter 25: Buck Begins 2.0

"Because you're exhausting, Buck! You only see one side of the picture. Chris couldn't talk to you whenever he had a nightmare because of that damn tsunami. I couldn't call you to bail me out of prison...if that would have happened," Eddie yelled. They were in the grocery store. "Eddie-"

"-No Buck. You abandoned us all because you couldn't wait until you were cleared to come back. And we had to pay for what you did".

There was a crash and the team ran outside to help the cars while Buck watched, just frozen in his spot. He couldn't even tell them why he had gone through with the lawsuit or why he had dropped it. The look Bobby gave him while they left was burnt into his memory.

"Chris! Christopher! Where are you?!" Someone screamed. The roaring sound of the water covered in noise. "Chirs!"

"Buck!" Finally, Chris could be heard. "Chris. Let go! I'll catch you!"

"Buck. What happened, where's Christopher?" Eddie was now holding onto his arms.

"Eddie. I...I tried. But he fell and I couldn't get to him."

His words were lost when Eddie ran past him, collecting Chris into his arms. The team ran up to Buck right as he collapsed.

"How many times do I have to tell you, Buckley? Get your chores done on time and this wouldn't happen." Buck remembered feeling pain in his shoulder from being pushed up against the lockers. "I'm sorry, Captain Nash."

"Buck, are you ok?" Someone asked him. Buck nodded before running his hand through his hair. "Sorry if I woke you. I'll try to be quieter," Buck whispered. The man shook his head before reaching for Buck's hand, which was currently scratching his other arm. "You didn't wake me Buck, so don't worry. It's perfectly normal to have nightmares. It comes with our job. Is it ok if I hold you? Just to try and allow you to relax. I know it helps me to have a comforting pressure after a nightmare." Buck nodded slightly before making room for the shorter man. But who was this man that Buck had so willingly allowed to comfort him after his nightmares?

"Alright, Strickland and Ryder, I want you two on the hose. TK and Mateo, see if you can try and make an access path to the barn. Buckley and Marwani..." Buck recalled flinching hearing his name called. "...There is a possible entrapment in the barn. Once TK and Chavez have cleared the way, I want you two to head inside to see if you can find the person. Everyone be careful and don't get hurt. Rule number one, you clock in with me, you clock out with me." Why was Buck with a new team? Why are there two Captains at the firestation? And Why was he allowed back on calls?

"Didn't mean to startle ya, darlin'. What are you doin' up so early? It's only 6 A.M, come back to bed". Buck was starting to remember. This was when they had gone back to L.A. for the first time since he left. Carlos and TK...if Buck remembered correctly, had helped him calm down and had brought him to their room that night. "I can't go back to sleep. My body is on a routine timer I guess," Buck confessed, leaning into Carlos' hold.

Carlos and TK were his partners...Eddie and him basically co-parent Chris and Bobby was locked up. But Buck still didn't know why.

Buck opened his eyes and grabbed his phone, calling TK. "Buck?"

"Hey T...I-I'm starting to remember."

"Carlos and I are on the way."
