It was supposed to be a normal day. Everything was going fine. So why did it all go drastically wrong?
That was all that was going through Buck's head while he tried to take in his surroundings. The last thing he remembered was running down the stairs, and then a blast. He didn't remember why he was running down the stairs. Something about a danger in the firehouse. Everyone else was already out, but he was the only one up stairs. Buck felt something heavy on him. He felt like he was back under the firetruck. Maybe there was another one on him. He didn't know. All he knew was that he was in immense pain. Buck felt around and found his phone in his front pocket.
"9-1-1, where's the location of your emergency?" The dispatcher asked. "This is-this is Firefighter Buckley. I-uh-I think there was an explosion? At the 126." He responded, trying to catch his breath. "Buck?" The dispatcher said. Buck realized that he was talking to Grace. "Grace? I need help. I-I think I'm trapped-" He paused to take in a deep breath. "Buck? Are you ok? Where are you?" Grace asked calmly. "I uh- I'm under the rubble, I think. I do-don't really know". There was silence before Grace spoke again. "Ok Buck. There's already some stations that have been dispatched to the station. Can you tell where you're at?"
Buck tried to look, but it hurt to turn his head. "The last thing I knew...I was coming down the stairs. It hurts to move." He could hear people shouting his name. "Ok, Buck. Judd just told me that they are looking for you. Can you make any noise?" Buck hummed, feeling a little tired. It was different than being pinned under the truck. "Buck? Can you hear me? I need you to make a noise for them." Grace spoke. "Mkay." The voices were getting closer to him. Buck groaned loudly, not having the energy to speak. "Buck?" He groaned again and heard the people getting closer. "They can hear you, ok? I need you to stay awake. Tell me something interesting, Buck." Grace responded. He thought for a minute before speaking, "Did you know that there are approximately 2 tsunamis a year?"
"I didn't know that. How did you know it?" She asked. "After Chris and I got caught in the one... um.. The one in LA, I uh..I researched about them." Grace smiled when he told her that and then looked at her phone. "Buck, keep talking. They are moving the rubble now, ok? I just need you to keep talking to me." She could hear Buck groan before he spoke again. "Uh- Sloths...sloths take 2 weeks. Um.. yeah, two weeks to digest their food. Chris told me that one." Grace hummed. "Grace?"
"Yes, Buck?"
"Do you think I'll get to see Chris again?"
Grace foze. She didn't expect him to ask that. "Of course, Buck. You'll be able to see Chris again." He hummed. "Y'know. This didn't feel like the fire truck. There was more pain then."
Grace was trying not to cry. "This is a little more comfortable." Grace held her hand against her mouth. Then, another voice came over the phone. "We found him, Gracie. Thank you." And then the call disconnected. After the call, Grace went into the breakroom and put her head in her hands. Judd texted her that they were taking Buck to the hospital. Her boss came in and told her to leave early, so Grace headed to the hospital.
She walked to where the rest of the team was. Carlos was sitting with TK, Owen and Gwyn while Judd was pacing around. Marjan, Mateo and Paul were standing, not wanting to sit. Grace walked over to Judd. He instantly wrapped her in a hug. "It doesn't look good. He coded twice on the way over here." He whispered to her. She nodded and went to sit down by Gwyn. Why did this happen, and why Buck?
