Addison woke up to the sun shining down on her with Hayden and Nicolas at the foot of her bed.
"Good morning Mrs. Barnes," Hayden's voice carried around the room, and instead of getting up Addison just pulled the covers over her head, a sigh leaving her lips when she closed her eyes again.
"Is Bucky in the office?"
"Yes ma'am, he got us at five to come back in the room and has requested that we keep you away from the office until he has answers."
"Of course, he did," Addison finally sat up in bed, the sheets pooling around her waist as she looked at Hayden and Nicolas, "let me guess I'm not to leave the premises without his permission?"
Hayden and Nicolas gave her a solemn nod.
Addison let out a breath before she pushed the sheets down the bed, slipping off the mattress. She wasn't upset at the fact that Bucky didn't want her to leave the property, in fact, she completely understood why, she was just upset that he didn't even consider waiting until she woke up, just to make sure that she was okay. When Addison reached the door, Hayden and Nicolas fell into a formation behind her, following her down the hallways to the staircase.
Sarah smiled from the couch when she saw Addison on the landing, Rebecca was sitting in the armchair with her hand on her stomach. Addison had been in the family for nearly a year and she still smiled every time she stayed at the house. Sarah had become her mother figure, something that Addison hadn't realized she needed so badly. From the time she turned sixteen she was surrounded by men, the women around her were too drugged to even try and help Addison. So when Sarah welcomed her into the family with open arms, she took advantage of every moment she had with the woman. "Morning sweetie," Sarah smiled, watching as Addison descended the stairs with Hayden and Nicolas right behind her, "grab a cup of coffee, we're getting ready to turn on the news."
A smile was sent towards the woman, Addison stepped behind Rebecca to enter the kitchen, and as she passed she squeezed Rebecca's shoulder, "Morning," Addison cheered as she looked at her sister in law, "How's the morning sickness today?"
"Awful, can you bring me a piece of bread when you come back in?"
"Of course."
The kitchen in the Barnes Manor was one of Addison's favorite places in the house, a wall of windows let natural light in and gave a view of the grove of trees behind the home. With the first snowfall of winter right around the corner, the grass and leaves looked glassy from the dew freezing on them. She grabbed the loaf of bread that sat on the counter, pulling a slice out and popping it in the toaster, before she moved to get a mug off the shelf. When she turned back around, movement in the trees caught her attention, and her heart stopped as she stepped back. "Hayden," she called, the blood rushing in her ears, "Nicolas, can you come in here?"
Within seconds both men were standing beside her, following her gaze to the trees. "Is there a security team that can be sent out to the property line? I swear I saw something."
"Yes ma'am," Nicolas answered her question, pressing on the walkie that was resting on his shoulder, "send a team out to the Barnes Manor property line, clean sweep, and report back as soon as possible."
The toaster dinging made her jump, turning to see the golden bread waiting for her. She hated this feeling, of not having control over her surroundings. Addison hadn't been fearful to exist in a long time, she had become comfortable in living with Bucky's security, her guards coming down without her meaning for them to. Now she was scrambling to get all of her senses back to her. Nowhere was safe, and Addison wasn't even sure she could bring it up to Bucky, he was questioning her at every turn. The only two that seemed to believe her without reservation other than her enforcers, were Warner and Rebecca.
