When Addison started regaining consciousness, her body felt like lead.
The cool metal around her wrist made her realize she was handcuffed, pulling her arms apart before she was being yanked up, a pained groan leaving her lips. She hadn't even been able to open her eyes before she was being shoved out of what she assumed was the car they took her in and thrown over a man's shoulder. It took most of her energy to pry her eyes open, craning her neck up slightly she saw a cargo plane. Her eyes fluttered shut once more, dropping her head against the man's back, too exhausted to fight. "Who are you guys?"
She hardly recognized her own voice.
"You wound me, babe," Addison's heart stopped as she opened her eyes again, eyes trained to where her name sat on the interior of his wrist, burn scars lacing up the muscles of his arms, "you try to kill me, and then you act like you don't remember your ex-husbands touch," Addison couldn't stop the puke that came out of her mouth, a reaction to chloroform or the fear finally taking over at the fact Emmett wasn't dead, and that his hand was pressed to her skin she wasn't sure, "and now you puke. You truly know how to make a man feel loved."
She could hear her heart racing in her ears, the metal cuffs digging into her skin as she tried to free herself. "What do you want with me," tears had started falling again, her body wasn't flailing like she wanted it to, and everything hurt, "he's going to kill you, he's going to make sure you're dead."
"Aw, is that supposed to scare me," Emmett's hands gripped her thighs as he placed her on the ground in front of him, moving to grab her shoulders when she stumbled at the sudden gravity shift, her head was spinning, eyes squeezing shut as she tried not to puke again, "you're worth a pretty penny babe, I'm not concerned about your husband, by the time he gets to me you'll be long gone," Emmett spun her around, nudging her towards the steps of the plane, "go on, don't make me carry you."
Addison looked over her shoulder, Emmett's face was still the kind face she had come to love back when she was sixteen, which made this even more painful, "why are you doing this?" She stumbled when he pushed her towards the plane, "Emmett please, haven't I been through enough?"
Emmett's face faltered, just for a moment, before he was hoisting her over his shoulder again. "You have, but you abandoned me, and they're offering ten million just for your delivery, and money's a hell of a lot more important."
Addison couldn't help the sob that ripped free of her chest, grunting when Emmett dropped her into a seat, sealing the door behind him and settling across from her. "To be honest, I don't have an answer for you, I was contacted by the Portland chapter of the SOL to find you," Emmett reached forward, taking her hands in his and pulling a key out of his pocket, unlocking one of the cuffs and rubbing her raw skin, "all I'm doing is dropping you off in Tillamook Bay," Emmett smiled when Addison dropped her eyebrows down, confused by all the information, "I forgot how cute you are when you don't recognize things," his thumb ran across her bottom lip, "it's in Oregon."
"What would the Oregon chapter of the SOL want with me?" Addison questioned, trying to make more space between them when Emmett leaned forward, her back hitting the plush seat and a whooshing sound leaving her mouth when she hit the air out of her lungs.
"They don't want you babe," Emmett placed his hand on Addison's knee when her breathing hitched as the plane took off, "someone way worse wants you, they're offering a lot of money for you to be delivered to them. I'm getting half of what the Portland chapter is making because I'm the only one who is able to find you," Addison's eyes flickered from where Emmett's hand was to where he was looking at her, "your husband is a real piece of shit, leaving you like that, look at where you are now if he didn't pay so much attention to his mob poisoning that city, and to all the signs of the tails his sweet wife had, maybe he wouldn't have watched you get taken from under him."
