Addison was curled up on the couch by the time Bucky arrived at the Lake House.
"Hi sweet girl," Bucky dropped a kiss to the top of her head while he fiddled with the Rolex on his wrist, unlatching it and setting it on the table by the door, "Sorry it's a bit later than I originally thought," He wasn't lying, it was close to nine now, the outside world completely dark because of the snow storm, and by the looks of the snowfall so far, they'd be snowed in for the next few days. "I'm going to grab the wood and change, I brought home some Thai food, and then we can relax."
"Did Hayden or Nicolas call you?"
Bucky dropped his keys in the bowl, his wallet following after while he regarded his wife's question, "Mm, yes they did," Bucky walked past the sunken living room, "They didn't say much though, is everything okay? Do I need to fire someone?"
"No, everything is fine," Addison offered a smile, "Can you bring me the blanket from the foot of the bed?"
"Sure sweet girl, I'll be right back." Bucky wasn't unaware of the tension Addison was creating for herself. She always did this when she was scared of his reaction. Bucky hated that a part of her was still scared of him, he tried to do everything in his power to keep her safe and loved, to show her that he would do all he could to keep her safe. But he hadn't, he knew that. He ignored her trauma, pushed her to do things she wasn't ready to do, and had a hard time adjusting to her being back as well. It wasn't that he didn't want her back, it was more so trying to navigate the person she became. She had seen something truly scared her, and Bucky wasn't sure what to do with the new fears.
He didn't take long, discarding his suit and tossing it into the basket, kicking off his loafers and pulling on some sweats with a sweatshirt. His phone buzzed with an unfamiliar number, so as he changed, he swiped his thumb across the screen, hitting the speaker button and grunting out a hello.
"Mr. Barnes! Hi, this is David Montgomery with the New York News, we were wanting to see-"
"No." Bucky tossed his socks into the basket after, "No, I don't want to give a statement, no my wife does not want to be interviewed, no she will not be a feature, no she will not provide any details," Bucky blew out a breath, "I hope you know who the fuck you guys keep pestering because I am not above either buying out your station and shutting you down or shooting you fuckers to stop bothering us, have a good day." Bucky slammed his hand down on the device, tossing it on the bed before he grabbed the blanket off the bed, and jogged down the stairs.
Addison looked over her shoulder when he approached, smiling when Bucky leaned down to finally kiss his wife after the long day he'd had.
Everything seemed to be overwhelming recently, he was struggling with his time management, and his wife needed his undivided attention as much as the rest of his duties. But he wasn't able to spread himself out thin enough. Bucky felt like he was failing her while he was trying to provide for her. Although she never said anything about it, in fact, she seemed at peace knowing that Bucky was still doing what she always knew, he was one hundred percent in the mafia. But he wanted to have his wife back to who she was.
"I got the food out," Addison had her legs tucked under her, and Bucky couldn't help but smile, it was all so normal, he hadn't seen his life like this in months. "I also spent today making new deserts, I know you don't eat too much sugar but-"
"Baby girl," Bucky sat down next to her, lifting her into his lap, curling her into his chest, "I love you, I'll try anything you make," he pushed some hair behind her ear, finally taking a look at the new scars that had appeared from Vaughn. It made him sick to see the pain his poor wife had to go through. She had a scar that ran through her eyebrow from where the glass of the car shattered, her lip had healed nicely, but there was a dark red line that would permanently be there. He should've just listened to her, taken more precautions, and not argued with her, maybe she wouldn't have been taken.
