after i clean up the cafe, i walk to my car, driving home.
i take off my glasses, scanning my eye and walking in the house. i close the door quietly, the automatic lights turning on as i walk.
i open the bedroom door, walking in. the lights were still on, olivia sitting in bed. "hi, how was work?" she asks, smiling at me. "hey, work was good," i say, taking off the beanie, "how was whatever you were doing?" "oh, it was okay," olivia chuckles, "just the fitting for my outfit and we rehearsed a little for the rock and roll hall of fame ceremony." "any photos?" i ask. "no," she smiles, "because you'll be able to see me in person." "for real?" i smile, walking into the wardrobe. "yeah, you can come for my performance," she says, a little louder so i could hear her. i would still be able to hear either way, but it's the thought that counts.
i chuckle, taking out pants and a shirt from the drawer, "perfect!" "what did you find?" she asks. "no, nothing, i'm saying perfect because i can come," i laugh, walking out after getting changed. "i'm nervous," olivia says as i sit on the bed. "for me coming? i don't have to," i say. "not just that," she hits my shoulder, "for performing." "don't be nervous," i smile, "how did the rehearsals go?" "pretty well," olivia says. "then you've got nothing to worry about."
olivia barges into the bedroom and i look up from my phone. "alanis can't do the song anymore!" olivia exclaims, stressing out. "what?! why?" i ask, standing up from the bed. "because her schedules clashed, so now i have to perform the song by myself!" she says, running her hands through her hair. i walk closer to her, seeing tears almost escaping her eyes from the stress. "hey," i whisper, wrapping my arms around her waist. she wraps her arms tightly around my neck, and i lift her up. she wraps her legs around me, and i walk to the bed. my foot hits the end of the bed, and we fall forward. olivia lets out a soft chuckle as i land on top of her.
i smile, kneeling on opposite sides of her. i hold her waist, sliding olivia up to the pillows. i lay on olivia's chest, letting her play with my hair. "talk to me," i say, "how're you feeling?" olivia lets out a sigh, "really stressed. it's tomorrow, and i just got told today." "have you rehearsed by yourself?" "all day today," olivia says, "my throat feels like sandpaper." "i can make you some tea," i suggest. "yeah?" she says. "yeah," i push myself off of olivia. "thank you," she whispers, closing her eyes. i smile, kissing her forehead twice before going to make her tea.
i bring the mug upstairs, opening the door. "liv," i say, standing on her side of the bed. she sits up, smiling at me. "you really are turning into a grandma," i smile, "making me make tea for you while you sit in bed." olivia smiles, "call me grandma olivia." "okay gr-" "kidding. don't." i chuckle, handing her cup to her. i sit on the side of bed, feet on the floor. i look the balcony window, "is it good?" "yeah, it's really smooth," olivia says, "how'd you know how to make this?" "my mom used to make it when i had a sore throat," i say. "that's cute," olivia says.
i hear her place the cup down, feeling arms wrap around my neck, hands connecting in front. olivia giggles as she moves her head forward, touching her cheek with mine, "hi." "hey," i smile, placing my hands on top of hers, "feeling better i see." "magic tea," she jokes, giving a big kiss to my cheek. "i'm gonna go and wash my car outside," i say. "can i help?" she asks. "yeah, sure," i smile, standing up after olivia disconnects her hands.
i get into the car, reversing it onto the driveway.
after i fill a bucket with water and one with water and soap. i slide on a microfiber cloth, throwing one to olivia. she puts it on, looking at it, "it's like a mitten." "you're like a mitten," i say, picking up the hose. "what?" she asks. i turn on the hose, starting to rinse down the car. "you heard me," i say. "yeah, i did. what's that supposed to mean?" she asks, following me around the car. olivia spends the next 3 minutes nagging me about what it means.
i dip my mitten in the soap and water bucket. "tell me! or i won't help you," olivia says. "okay, don't help," i laugh, "you wanted to." "so you don't want me here?" she asks, dipping her cloth in the bucket too. i start to wash the car, "i do." "so tell me, or i'm going back inside," she says, washing the part i just washed. "side to side, olive," i tell her, "and it's nothing, i just have a habit where i repeat random things." "oh," olivia laughs, swiping her hand side to side, "well that was a waste of five minutes." "you're telling me," i smile.
i tell olivia to get the hose as i do the last wheel. "alright," olivia says, walking away. i look up as my spine tingles, getting splashed with water straight after. i gasp, and olivia laughs, moving back as she holds the hose in her hand.
i look down at my shirt and shorts, now soaked with cold water. "olivia!" i exclaim, looking back up at her. "i didn't know it was on!" she laughs. "oh, so you decide to aim it at me to test it out?!" i laugh, walking to her as she moves back slowly. "well... yeah," she smiles. i walk quicker, and olivia makes a break for it.
we were now on opposite sides of the car. "olivia!" i yell as water falls on me from over the car. she bursts out laughing, and i feel more water on me. i swing my arms back, jumping. my hand touches the car roof as i jump over it, and i push myself off my arm, landing in front of olivia. she yells, and i laugh, quickly grabbing the hose from her.
i hold it in my hand. "no, please," she puts her hands in front of her face as she laughs. i look down, pulling the waistband of her shorts out. i put the hose near it, pressing down the trigger with my four fingers. "y/n!" olivia yells. i laugh, letting the trigger go. "that's so cold!" olivia gasps. "yeah? how do you think i feel?" i smile, moving a step back.
i point the hose at her, water spraying onto her chest. "oh my god!" she exclaims, turning around. i continue to spray her back, wetting her hair. i laugh, letting go of the trigger again, "okay, i've had my fun." "fun as in spraying your girlfriend with a hose?" she says, turning back around. "don't act like you didn't just do that," i smile, starting to rinse the car. "do what? you just went me for no reason at all," olivia sighs dramatically, "now i'm all soaked and freezing." "are you actually cold?" i ask. "no," olivia laughs, "i'm kidding." i smile, "we can shower after i finish this."
i hand olivia the hose to do the second half as she persisted. she takes it, attempting to spray it across the car. "olivia, you're missing half the car," i laugh. "no i'm not," she says, moving the hose down. "now you're not," i say. "i've been spraying a hundred percent of the water on the car this whole time," olivia says, smiling at me. "gaslighter," i laugh, watching olivia spray the car.
