"Will you, Sophia Hazel James, make me the luckiest man in the world and marry me?"
Sophia cupped her hands over her mouth, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. I'd be lying if I said she wasn't expecting this, but there was something electric about asking the love of your life to choose to love you for the rest of your lives. She let out a teary laugh as she threw her arms around my neck. "Yes. Oh my god, yes. A million times, yes."
"I love you, Soph."
"Really?"
"What, the proposal wasn't clear enough for you?"
"Well I still haven't gotten my ring," she said, pouting.
Hands shaking, I pulled my grandmother's ring out of my pocket and slipped it onto Soph's ring finger. "I wasn't planning on proposing today. I had a whole thing planned, but today seemed perfect. Our first kiss was on this bridge, and I know how you feel about sunsets, so...it just felt right."
"You're a hopeless romantic, you know?" Sophia buried her head in my neck, laughing.
"I know."
"Now that is why I'm marrying you, Mr. 'I'm so humble'."
"I thought it was for my devilishly good looks," I smiled back.
"That's just a bonus."
I pulled Sophia closer to myself, feeling her heartbeat against my own, resting my forehead against hers. "I don't know what I would've done if you said no."
"Hey, hey," Sophia rubbed my back in reassuring circles, "We're past that, okay? We're okay now."
I pressed a feverish kiss to Sophia's forehead, making her smile again. "You're my dream girl."
"You're my dream guy."

"You forgot again, didn't you?"
"Soph, I swear, I didn't mean to. I got held back, you know how Robert is."
"It's our anniversary, Drew. I thought that meant something."
"It does. Honey, I'm so sorry. I'll make it up to you. I promise."
Sophia raised her hand to her face, wiping stray tears off of her cheeks. "Do you love me?"
"Of course, I do, Soph. You know that."
"Then why do you hurt me?"
"Soph-"
"No. this is the fourth time this week you've blown me off, Drew. We've been doing this for five years now. I shouldn't have to ask you to be a decent human being. And...the least you could've done is called."
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"No, Drew. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I don't fit into your life anymore."
"Sweetheart, please if you would just-"
"I'll stay at Olivia's tonight. I need some space, okay?"
"Okay."

"Oh. My. God."
"What? What's wrong?"
I stared at Sophia's face as she stared at the ceiling in disbelief. I had worked too hard to lose her now. "We're engaged."
I stifled a laugh, relieved. "I know. I'm the one who asked you to marry me about an hour ago."
"I know. I know. But I didn't think we'd make it this far."
"Well, we did."
"Any regrets, husband to be?"
"None. None whatsoever," I replied, my voice coated in comforting conviction I didn't even have to fake. I stared at Sophia's face a little longer, before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Hey, Soph?"
"Hmm?"
"You'll always fit into my life."
Sophia smiled. "You'll always fit into mine," she whispered as she kissed her fiancé. "Good night, babe."
"Night."
And that's when I realized it. She was mine now. All mine.
