"It's late, isn't it?"

Ollie laughed at me. I could still smell the champagne on her breath from our fancy night on the town but I didn't mind. Both of us needed an off day. "It's hardly even eleven. Calm down, Jade."

"Should we head home?"

Olivia smiled. "Yeah, but I'm not driving."

As I searched for available cabs on my phone, a comfortable silence surrounded us.

"Nothing is going to happen to Ace the one day we decide to let loose a little, Jade. You need to start seeing yourself as a different person."

I knew Ollie was coming from a place of love so I hardly had any reason to be offended. "Different how?"

"Different from Ace."

I had smiled solemnly. I had been trying to work on that for so long. Well, today changed that. After what I saw tonight, I want nothing more to do with Amelia.

"Did you rate the driver?"

"Five stars," I nodded at Ollie. "You got the keys?"

"Yeah, they should be in one of my...ah. There they are," she said jingling her panda keychain in front of my face. She hates it but I got it for her, so well. Connect the dots.

I hurry Ollie to open the door. Right now I want nothing more than to get out of my "fancy shmancy" outfit, as Ollie likes to call it and get into my PJs. I sigh as I step into our living room. Ah, home sweet home.

"Ace? We're home!"

There's no answer and I think Ollie can see the creases make their way onto my forehead because I feel her hand on my back. "She's probably just sleeping."

I simply nod as I make my way to her room. Okay. I can't take this anymore. "It's empty. Olivia! It's empty."

"Her location shows that she's home."

"Show me that," I yell, taking her phone from her before she can answer. "If it says she's home why isn't she? Oh, maybe she left her phone her. Try calling her."

"Jade, if Ace left her phone here-"

"Just call her! Please."

I can hear my heartbeat in my ears and my lungs gasping for a breath of air. Am I not breathing? No, that can't be right. I sit down on the floor, head in hands. Please answer the phone. Answer the phone. Answer the phone. I find my head lift itself off my hands as I hear the faint sound of Nirvana's 'smells like teen spirit'. That's Ace's ringtone. And it's coming from the bathroom.

I rush past Ollie, beating down on the door with all the strength I have. "It's not opening, Ollie. Why isn't it opening?" I have tried so hard to control my tears but I don't have any strength left. The tears are making their way out my eyes, the splinters of the door making their way into my palm. I can feel my palms stinging with pain even after Ollie pulls me away from the door and kicks it down.

And then when I see the lifeless corpse of my sister on the bathroom floor, it is my heart that stings with pain.
