Chapter 15 - Living a nightmare

16th Feb

Rosetta's POV:

I yawn for what feels like the hundredth time today as I wipe at my eyes.

A blue light behind me grabs my attention and the second I see Lily's patronus I apparate.

I head up to the door to find it wide open, I walk in slowly, shaking slightly at the thought of what I could find when I make it up the stairs. I'm careful not to stand on any of the glass from the many broken pictures.

I see nothing when I reach the top and I hear nothing.

I peak into my sisters room.

No one.

A spare room.

No one.

Harry's room.

It's open.

I peer around the corner and my heart misses a beat.

My sister lifeless on the floor in front of my nephews crib.

I collapse onto my knees crawling over to my sisters side.
"Lils" I move her face towards me "Lils wake up" I shake her shoulders "this isn't funny" i start shaking her shoulders profusely as I hope she's joking, this isn't a joke. I pinch myself quickly.

Not sleeping either.

I bring my knees up to my chest rocking back and forth.

I don't know how long I sit there sobbing but a tiny cough grabs my full attention.

"Harry?" I look towards the crib to see Harry sat up with a bright red lightning scar across his forehead. I pick him up and hold him close being sure to keep his eyes off of Lily.

The roaring of a motorbike results in me heading to the window seeing Hagrid on what looks to be Sirius' bike. That's odd.

I look down at Harry and then to Lily remembering the promise I made and without a second thought I apparate home.

I sit on the sofa holding Harry in my arms as I try not to cry.

Knock knock

My head darts towards the door and down to Harry
"Bloody hell" they were here to take Harry to Lily's oldest sibling, this is technically kidnapping; but Lily would want me to have him. The inner monologue carries on as I take Harry upstairs, placing him on the duvet of my bed which I place on the floor, I'm so glad he's sleeping.

I run down the stairs, stopping in front of a mirror to make sure it doesn't look like I've been crying. I grab the door handle taking a deep breathe and open it to reveal Dumbledore and Hagrid.
"Albus, Hagrid" I acknowledge "would you like to come in?" Keep your voice calm Rose
"Thank you Rosetta" Albus nods as him and Hagrid enter heading over to the sofas
"What can I do for you?" I already know why your here
"I am sorry to say I have some terrible news" Albus states sound shocked when he says it Rose
"What is it?"
"Voldemort found your sister" I gasp
"Albus the name is taboo you know that" I say quickly
"Voldemort has gone missing after visiting your sister, no trace, just poof" he mimes with his hands
"Wait, Lily?" I quickly ask good, that's good sounds like I'm none the wiser
"I am afraid Lily Evans didn't make it" since Harry's not here I let the tears ,that I had been keeping in since I noticed Harry ,fall
"W-what? You said you'd protect her, you said she'd be safe!" I snap standing up
"I said I hoped she'd be safer" he replies softly "I know this is hard for you Rosetta but I need to know if you have Harry as he was not there"
"You lost Harry, my nephew!" I have to put the blame on him to take the suspicion off of me.
"There were no signs he was even there to begin with" I grab a tissue dabbing my eyes
"Then where is - I don't" I stutter
"We will leave you be as we have yet to visit your brother, I am so sorry for your loss" I watch them leave through the door before heading to the window to make sure there completely gone.

I run up the stairs and find Harry still asleep,
"How am I going to keep this a secret?" I frown looking down at him "You wouldn't be looked after properly by Petunia so they can't know your alive"

Timeskip

I am currently grabbing some baby food that Lily left here for Harry ,because I think he's hungry, when I hear the door go. I freeze up
"Rosie?!" I let out the breath I was holding and head into the living room to find James staring at Harry.

"How?" He looks up to me
"You heard about Lily then" I state leaning against the door frame
"Harry" he pointed at the little boy who was sat pulling on the rug
"I promised Lily I would take Harry should anything happen to her, what was I supposed to do let him be taken to Petunia. Petunia would keep him just to rub it in my face and you know it" I head over and start pacing in front of him
"So you want us to lie to everyone?!" He asks exasperated
"We have to" I tilt my head to the side as the tears resurface
"Oh baby" he pulls me close "we'll raise him right"
A little hiccup grabs our attention as Harry looks up revealing the scar
"What's that?" James picks Harry up examining it
"I'm not sure but it doesn't seem to be hurting him" I shrug.
James suddenly perks up "what?" I ask quickly
"Follow me" I follow him all the way to the library where he pulls at several books revealing a hidden room.
"How did I not know about this?!" I look over at him my mouth wide open
"It was my play room as a kid, but the point is it could be Harry's room, keep all the kid stuff in here so no one will know" he smiles wide clearly proud of himself
"Wow, I'm impressed"
"No need to sound so surprised" he shakes his head and I laugh as we head into the room, both having to duck to get in (me only slightly)
"It'll need a clean" I comment wiping my finger over a dusty toy box
"I'll start on it tomorrow" I nod
"Wait" I pause "how did you already know about Lily?" He looks down "James?" I ask as I take Harry off of him.
"Twelve muggles were killed down the street from Lily's house along with Peter, Sirius has been arrested" my mouth falls open
"Sirius?" I eye James "there's no way" I shake my head
"It was him who sold Lily to you-know-who" i freeze up only coming back when Harry wiggles a little.
"I can't believe it"
"Me either" he hugs me and Harry

How has life become so complicated in one day?
