James' POV

I stretch my arm forward but it just hits the bed, I open my eyes to see my wife is nowhere to be found, I sit up fully looking around the room, still no sign of her.

I get up and change into some pants before heading out of our room
"Rose!" I call out
"In here" I hear her shout back from somewhere in the house
"Where are you?!" I ask loudly
"Harry's room!" She responds just as loud

I head down towards the library and on into Harry's room behind the bookcase; here I find my wife rocking on the rocking chair with Harry playing with a toy train at her feet.

"Valentines day and I wake up alone" I huff, she turns to look at me and I'm surprised by the dark bags under her eyes, she looks like she hasn't slept a wink
"Sorry, couldn't sleep"
"How long have you been up?" I ask her a bit concerned
"Few hours, back started to ache and when I was going to head back to bed Harry started whining so decided I'd just stay here instead" she explains
"Do you want to head to bed now?" I crouch in front of her
"My back hurts so I can't sleep" she shrugs
"I'm sorry" I pout rubbing her knees
"Oh happy Valentine's Day" she places her small hand on my cheek
"Happy Valentine's Day my love" she leans forward and kisses my lips, I sigh contently. "Do you want to cancel our plans and just have a nice chilled day at home?" I remove her hair from her face
"Do you mind? I know how long you take planning Valentine's Day"
"I don't mind at all, how about I go downstairs and put some sandwiches together and some snacks and we have a picnic in the garden. And I'll bring some toys out for Harry" I plan
"Mmmmm that sounds nice"
"I'll get to that then, I'll call you when it's ready" I stand back up and walk towards the door
"Thank you" my darling wife calls
"No problem love"

I make my way downstairs and on into the kitchen, the first thing I do is get out some bread, margarine, tuna, mayonnaise, cheese and ham. To make some sandwiches. I make up the sandwiches and put them to the side whilst I make up a fruit bowl making sure to add in a lot of berries at the sides since they're my wife's favourite. I'm actually very proud of how the salad bowl looks since I wouldn't usually be the one to do this, I'm usually just the pancake maker and that's it. The final addition to a great picnic is the sweet treats, luckily for us we have some chocolate cupcakes left and the hamper of treats that I got my wife for Valentine's Day; which includes: fizzing whizzbees, two chocolate frogs and fudge flies.

Oh and I need a blanket or two for the picnic and I have no idea where they are.

"It's ready!" I call out
"Coming!" A little while later Rose heads down the stairs holding Harry "sorry, takes me a while to get around now"
"Darling where are the picnic blankets?" I ask her as she's still walking down the stairs
"Cupboard under the stairs" (😉) she breathes out
"Oh right" when I open the cupboard they are right there in front of my face, I shake my head, why didn't I think to look here?

"Right I'll go place the blankets" I tell her as I grab a blue one and a green one
"Before you do, this is for you" she hands me a neatly wrapped fluffy presant
"Oh thanks, yours is in the kitchen, let me just grab it" I quickly go and get it from the kitchen "happy Valentine's Day" I hand her the hamper
"I needed this today" she chuckles "thank you, now open yours" she grins as I open it to find a large poofy pillow with 'Dad's corner' printed on the front. I laugh,
"This is brilliant, thank you" I kiss her cheek "now I'll go and place the blankets"

Once I finish placing the blankets I head inside to grab the plates of food and Harry's building blocks and finally we all sit down to eat.

"This is the perfect Valentine's Day, out in the sun with my two boys" Rose says before diving right into the food, I raise my eyebrows at her eagerness "what, I'm eating for two" I laugh
"that you are"
