"So..Ms.Lockwood this can go the easy way, where you answer us truthfully, or the hard way." He groaned sitting down as officer Wildon sat behind him.
The room was dull and gray with a couple metal chairs bolted to the floor and a cold desk my arms rested on as they talked to me. I looked to my left seeing my own reflection in the mirror wondering if anyone was watching from the other side. God I looked like a mess, I haven't changed my clothes for what felt like 24 hours.
The bright white lights on the ceiling were too harsh for my eyes and the room was cold as I felt the goosebumps along my arm rise. I stayed silent waiting for them to speak.
"Look Maddy, we found a Tesla at the bottom of the lake this tuesday." He said. Tuesday? Did they wait for me to come home?
"There was no sign the vehicle was stolen since all fingerprints were washed away, the team says it was most likely thrown in the lake the same week your father reported it missing. Are you absolutely certain it was stolen after you woke up?" I waited a while to answer.
"The last time I saw it was before I went to sleep."
"And you don't think the two girls who slept over saw it after that, Billie O'Connell and Alison Anderson?" I hated hearing their names come from his mouth.
"No, we were all together." I mean that's true, we were.
"Having a sleepover correct?"
"Yeah." I nod.
"Did the three of you hang out in your car a lot before it went missing?"
"I mean yeah I guess we all kind of did."
"And by all you mean?" He questions.
"Like me , Billie, Ali, Jason, Robin, Zoe, we all did." I named my friends one by one.
"And where would you guys travel to?" His eyes squinted.
"Just random places, to get food or sometimes we hung out there during lunch."
"Does Alison usually sit in the back?"
"I mean yeah I guess? There's no seating arrangement." Weird question.
"Has anyone gotten into fights in the car?" He asks.
"No?" What is he going on about?
"Forensics found blood in the backseat floor of DNA belonging to Alison."
I looked at him, how is that possible?
"Then she hurt herself I guess?" I say.
"You guess?" He leaned closer from across the table.
"We spent a lot of time in that car, I always pick my fingers there's probably my blood in the front seat too." Which was also true.
"Still, a little weird, no?"
"Not really, everyone's DNA is probably all over that car." Ew that sounded gross.
"Don't you agree that if someone had stolen it they would have left something of theirs behind as well?"
"I don't know, I've never stolen one." I answered calmly.
"Okay. Now can you explain why you lied to us the last time you were in this room?"
"What-"
"The lighter." He states.
'I, I was just scared." I threw my hands up from my lap.
"Scared of what? Getting caught?-"
"No. I was just scared because my friend is missing, okay? I lost that lighter months ago and I thought maybe Robin took it and you found it somewhere...I just don't know I have really bad anxiety when it comes to things like this."
