I set up my canvas and paints, and studied the girl sitting before me. Her dark hair was below her shoulders, framing a face with sharp, angular features. But her eyes always caught my attention deep pools of brown that seemed to hold the weight of the world.

With a shaky hand I began to mix the paints, choosing just the right shades to capture the depth and complexity of everything Kit was. I carefully sketched out the girl's face on the canvas, taking note of the way the light played across her features.

I started filling in the details, as I was drawn in by the intensity of her gaze. Her eyes seemed to hold secrets and emotions that were just out of reach, I wanted to capture them in the painting.

"Stop moving." I say. Its sharp cheekbones and jawline were accentuated on canvas, giving her a distinctly masculine appearance. But there was a softness to her features as well.

"I'm bored Maddy, when is it my turn?" Kit complains as a splash of red water comes from the cup on my desk while I dipped my brush in.

I sighed and painted the finishing touches for our art assignment the teacher gave us last month. I stared at the mysterious girl infront of me. I had only known her for a little over a month and already had dinner with her family and was kissed by her.

"I'm sorry , by the way." She breaks the silence and fixes her wavy hair.

"Hmm?" She pulled me out of the trance I go into as I paint. I loved painting but painting her was different, I felt nervous. We hadn't exactly spoken since Italy.

"For kissing you, I'm sorry." She looks down at her black converse.

"Oh...it's okay Kit.Were just friends right?" I told her as her brown eyes stayed glued to my wrist for a few moments.

"right...are you okay by the way? I tried texting you after you knew...the arrest." She whispered the last few words.

"Yeah, it's just stupid. Robin's parents think I was involved with something." I was.

"Were you?" She asked as I gave her a really? Look.

"But her dad thinks you killed her? She asks.

"We don't know she's dead." I mean I do but...

"Yeah but come on Maddy, you hear what everyone says about her. There's no way she would have ran away something happened-"

"I-I don't know about it." I continued painting the details in her eyes on the canvas.

"No yeah I'm sorry, I know you probably heard enough of that shit." She got more comfortable on the annoying chairs our school made us sit on in art class.

"It's fine, you don't have to keep apologizing." I told her.

"I feel bad. I don't hate Billie, you know, even though she gave me this." She pointed to the small almost healed bruise on the side of her jaw. "I just like you and I was annoyed she met you before I did."

"She shouldn't have done that, she was just frustrated." I felt bad but I knew what Billie did.

"No, I deserved it. I would have done the same if I was yours." She laughed, causing me to join her.

"You're still wearing it." Her eyes pointed to the bracelet around my wrist she gave me when we arrived in Italy.

"Cause it's pretty." I shut down the thought of the chance of me wearing it for another reason.

"Are you going to watch the fireworks tonight?" She asked a few moments later as the bell rang for the next period.

"Yeah I think we are all going, it's the college fair thing right?" Applying to colleges was the last thing on my mind.
