Hi! Here are all the clues & other mysterious things broken down throughout the novel in case you wanted to remember some you may have forgotten, or are curious about how everything in the novel connects to each other!

1 - Cherry Stained Kisses

Chapter Name: I liked the term "cherry stained" as a way to represent the blood the girls spilt, that even if it's cleaned up their hands will always be stained.

Song Choice: I love you - Billie Eilish. This is the song she sings to Maddy in this chapter.

Clues & Correspondences:

Maddy says "but then I think of Her." referring to the first chapter of White Hot Forever's chapter name "her" is indeed about Billie and not Scar.

This is the first time we see Maddy's drug addiction and how bad the past haunts her.

2 - Nothing Gold Stays

Chapter Name: Nothing Gold Stays means to never take anything for granted because in an instant everything can change. Maddy mentions the golden locket Billie gave her for christmas, this foreshadows that their relationship might not be perfect in the future.

Song Choice: Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult

Clues & Correspondences:

Maddy notices the Missing Sarah Jackson is no longer on the pole outside of school where she first saw it, representing hope that maybe Clearwater is starting to forget about the missing girls/crimes.

Kit draws a bow and arrow in art class, this was added to trick the readers into thinking later in the story that it was Kit aiming at Maddy in the forest.

3 - Wildflower

Chapter Name: Wildflower represents the Belladonna/Nightshade plant Alison later uses to kill herself with.

Song Choice: Stuck With Me - The Neighbourhood

Clues & Correspondences:

Maddy mentions how much she loves Alison's uncle's house. Alison takes note of this and then later on leaves the house in Maddys name.

Alison kills herself with the same plant Maddy described her as in the previous book, she mentions Ali was a beautiful woman but filled with poison aka Belladonna Plant.

Maddy holds the old notebook with scars letter inside but she does not notice

Maddy gets a delivery of Flowers and chocolate. Billie mentions the flowers are from her but not the chocolate. One of the chocolates in the pack looks different from the others (the white chocolate with sprinkles). Kit is eating pretzels covered in the same chocolate and sprinkles which we later learn were made by her friend Claire. Claire tries poisoning Maddy multiple times and this is a clue that the chocolate was left by claire.

The man Maddy and Ali saw outside is the private investigator Robin's parents hired.

4 - Haunted

Chapter Name: Referees to Maddy being haunted by the past.

Song Choice: Jealous Girl - Lana Del Rey, I chose this because of Billie's jealousy in this chapter.
