TW// hospital, impalement, surgery
The sky was sunny without a cloud to be seen. It was a gorgeous day. A soft wind blew a few leaves across the ground. The neighborhood kids were playing in the park as their parents sat by and watched. Nearby on the grass, a small group of seven was having a picnic. They were sitting on a blue blanket in a circle eating their sandwiches. The air was calm and peaceful. It seemed like it was going to be a wonderful day. That all changed in a few moments.
Heeseung stood up and started to stretch when it suddenly felt like the ground was pulled out from under him. He fell on top of Jake. He tried to get up, but the ground was shaking too hard. They heard the cries of some of the kids in the park, some cries of fear and some of pain. Time seemed to slow down and all that existed was a shaking world.
"Sunghoon, call and ambulance, Sunoo, bring the blanket. Everyone else, come with me." He ran over to the boy as everyone followed him. Together they tried to move the equipment away but they were not properly equipped. Thankfully, the ambulance arrived within a few minutes and started cutting him out. The had him secured in the ambulance when the first aftershock started.
Again, Heeseung fell down, this time onto the sharp edge of the monkey bars. He felt it pierce his skin and cried out in pain. He heard Niki call put his name. He felt something crash into his back and he blacked out.
The aftershock ended two minutes later. From the ambulance, the paramedics had seen him fall and saw the tree fall on top of him. The quickly called for backup and headed towards the fallen tree leaving only one paramedic behind with the boy.
Jay kept calling out Heeseung's name with no response. The paramedics looked grim as they instructed everyone where to stand and to try and lift the tree. It was a medium sized tree and, with everyone chipping in it was soon gone.
Seeing the state Heeseung was in caused Jungwon and Niki to start crying. Sunghoon and Jay quickly pulled them into a hug and led them a little bit away from the commotion to let the paramedics do their work.
The monkey bars were quickly cut again so they wouldn't have to remove it from Heeseung's abdomen, and he was quickly loaded onto the second ambulance which had arrived not long after it had been called.
After the ambulances pulled away, Jay took charge and got everyone into the van after packing up the picnic. He drove to their apartment before parking and turning around. "He will be in surgery now,' he told everyone. "Take showers, pack some tings, and we'll go to the hospital soon."
As Jay had said, Heeseung was rushed into surgery. The piece of metal in his gut was finally taken out to assess the damage. It had missed all of his vital organs, except for his kidneys. The doctors tried to save them, but they were gone. He was immediately connected to a dialysis machine and the rest of his injuries were stitched up. The kept him in an induced come.
As soon as Jay was told, he immediately had himself tested as a match. He didn't match. No one else did either. They agonized over what to do as time slipped away. Each day that passed put Heeseung in more and more danger. They looked everywhere and put his name n lists but it seemed the end was near, until one day Jay had an idea.
The rules of kidney donation were that if you donate specifically to someone, that person would get the kidney, otherwise they would be put on a waiting list. Jay thought if he donated his kidney to Heeseung, it would be given to someone else who needed it but a matching kidney would be given to Heeseung right away. The doctor agreed and one week later, it was done.
The surgery was a success and the two were soon in the recovery room. Heeseung and Jay were placed in the same room and everyone else sat around. Heeseung woke up first, looking around. "Heeseung!" Jake yelled out and promptly burst into tears. "You're alive," he sobbed. Heeseung looked confused. "What happened?" he asked, "and why is Jay in a hospital bed?"
"He saved your life," Sunghoon told him.
"Will he be ok?" Heeseung questioned.
"I'll be fine," they heard Jay say from his bed. "Don't worry about me."
Slowly, they explained what had happened to Heeseung and how Jay had saved his life. Heeseung thanked him profusely throughout the day. He was grateful to be alive.
Jay was released from the hospital two days later and the day after that, Heeseung was released as well.
Once they reached their apartment, they were met with a surprise. The little boy, now with a cast on his arm, and his mother, were standing there. "Thank you," the mother said. Heeseung smiled. He bent down to give the boy a hug. "What's your name?" he asked. "Hyunjin," the little boy said proudly with a grin. Heeseung grinned back."Why don't you come inside Hunjin, and you too Hyunjin's mom."
The two families became very close. They became like family to each other, and they all lived happily ever after.
