'Turn to page 394,' said Professor Snape.

Professor Lupin had not shown up to today's Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson because he was 'incapable of teaching at the present moment,' according to Professor Snape. He was replacing their Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and as Y/N read the title of page 394, 'Werewolves', Snape didn't seem to be following Lupin's curriculum.

'Werewolves?' Ron questioned incredulously, peering at the title in his book.

'But sir,' said Hermione, unable to restrain herself. 'We're due to start Hinkypunks-'

'Quiet,' ordered Snape. 'Who can tell me the difference between the werewolf and the common wolf?'

Hermione's hand shot up in the air, but Snape ignored it.

'No one?' said Snape, surveying the class. 'How disappointing.'

'Please, sir,' Hermione began. 'The werewolf differs from the common wolf in several different ways. The werewolf's snout-'

'That is the second time you have spoken out of turn, Miss Granger,' said Snape coolly. 'Ten points from Gryffindor.'

'You asked us a question and she knows the answer,' said Ron angrily. 'Why ask if you don't want to be answered?'

Snape advanced on Ron slowly, and the class could tell that Ron had gone too far. But not far enough, according to Y/N.

'Detention, Weasley,' said Snape.

'A wolf is a regular animal that walks on four legs,' said Y/N suddenly. 'Unlike the werewolf, who is a human that transforms unwillingly into a bipedal wolf every full moon. Hence 'were' meaning 'man' and wolf, man-wolf. The werewolf is far more vicious than the regular wolf,' she trudged on, Snape looking murderous, 'and only responds to the call of its own kind. They are classified as highly dangerous by the Ministry of Magic, but, of course, when not transformed, the person who suffers from lycanthropy is as perfectly harmless as any other human.'

'Awooo,' howled Malfoy, receiving sniggers from his Slytherin counterparts. Y/N shot him a nasty look which he returned.

'Thank you, Mr. Malfoy,' said Snape, rounding on Y/N, who simply stared at her book from which she had just read out the definition of a werewolf in her own words. 'I don't recall giving you permission to speak-'

'Nor do I, but I was kindly answering your question.'

'Twenty points from Gryffindor,' said Snape vehemently.

'Why doesn't Malfoy get points taken off for howling in the middle of class?' Y/N snapped, looking up from her book and glaring at Snape.

'I do not want to hear criticism for how I run this class!' Snape spat. 'One more word and it's a week's worth of detentions for you, Y/L/N.'

The class held its breath, expecting another outburst of flames, but Y/N simply shrugged and continued looking at her book without reading it.

'You think you're so clever,' Snape hissed. 'But you're just a nasty little student who thinks they're above authority...'

Y/N clenched her jaw and didn't respond. Harry glared at Snape angrily, opening his mouth to retort, but Ron kicked him under the table before he could say anything.
