"A face of a lover with a fire in his heart,
A man undercover, but you tore me apart."

Snow was swirling against the icy windows once more; Christmas was approaching fast. Hagrid had already single-handedly delivered the usual twelve Christmas trees for the Great Hall.

According to the reports coming from St Mungo's, Y/N's parents were recovering steadily, but they were still too unstable to be moved to a ward where Y/N could go and visit them.

This was disappointing to Y/N, who still had the vision of his parents completely ravaged stuck in his mind. He wanted desperately to see them with his own eyes and make sure they were actually alive, despite the reports confirming this.

Y/N had healed completely from his excursion to the cave by Loch Awe, and was quickly becoming irritated with people stopping him in the corridors or the common room every two seconds to ask him to recount what had happened.

This wasn't what bothered Y/N the most, however. It was the brief conversation he had with Draco Malfoy a few weeks ago. Moreover, Malfoy had started staring at Y/N even more than usual; or perhaps he had been staring before, but Y/N barely noticed.

When Y/N told Hermione about the conversation, her first reaction was to tell Dumbledore, which Y/N might have considered if the Headmaster wasn't still disappearing from the castle every few days.

'I'll just tell him when he decides to tell me more about the prophecy,' said Y/N one afternoon in the common room.

'I still can't believe you've got a twin,' said Hermione. 'And you've never seen them before?'

'Nope,' said Y/N. 'Anyway... I'll worry about that some other day- Wait!'

'What?'

'Procyon,' said Y/N slowly. 'Procyon - isn't that the-?'

'The star in the Canis Minor constellation, yes,' said Hermione, frowning at her friend. 'Why do you ask?'

'Leonora said I'd met their friend called Procyon,' said Y/N quickly, his mind working fervently. 'At first, I didn't know what they were talking about but I've just realised they said Procyon reminded me of someone and- it's that dog!'

'What dog?'

'The one we met over the summer,' said Y/N earnestly. 'You know, on Harry's birthday, that dog that looked like Padfoot?'

Hermione gasped. 'Yes, I remember!'

'It was Leonora's dog!' exclaimed Y/N. 'I'm so stupid, why didn't I realise it before?'

'How could you have?' asked Hermione. 'They didn't exactly say it was their dog, did they?'

'No... but still... I wonder why they sent him to see me?'

'Maybe... maybe they were trying to lure you away?' suggested Hermione.

'That's stupid, why would I follow a random dog?' said Y/N, grinning.

'Procyon looked like Snuffles, didn't he?' said Hermione. 'Except for the eyes... Maybe Leonora was trying to lure you into a false sense of security and get you to follow the dog.'

'Maybe,' muttered Y/N. 'Well, it wouldn't have worked, I'm not that stupi-'

There was a loud giggle from a few seats away. Lavender had apparently found one of Ron's jokes particularly funny, and she promptly dived on him and they began kissing for the dozenth time in that hour.
