'It's already a quarter to ten, my parents are gonna kill me,' said Y/N, dropping Dudley at the doorstep of number four.

'They'll understand if you just tell them what happened,' said Harry bracingly, ringing the doorbell.

'Yeah, but I never really tell my parents what goes on at Hogwarts,' huffed Y/N. 'So if I tell them about the Dementors, I'll have to explain everything else-'

The door swung open and Petunia Dursely appeared.

'Diddy! About time too, I was getting quite - Diddy, what's the matter?'

Dudley had gotten up. He was leaning on the doorway and just in time, Y/N and Harry jumped away before Dudley vomited all over the doormat.

'DIDDY! Diddy, what's the matter with you? Vernon? VERNON!'

Harry's uncle came galumphing out of the living room, hurrying forwards to help pull Dudley over the threshold.

'He's ill, Vernon!'

Petunia and Vernon didn't seem to notice Y/N's presence. She grabbed Harry's hand and tiptoed into the house, moving carefully and quietly towards the stairs.

'Who did this to you, Diddy?'

Harry's foot was on the bottom-most stair when Dudley spoke.

'Them.'

Y/N and Harry froze, looking sideways at each other.

'BOY! COME HERE!' boomed Vernon.

Letting out a deep sigh, Harry turned around and followed the Dursleys to the kitchen.

'Tell your little girlfriend to come here, too!' shrieked Petunia.

Harry's face popped out of the kitchen, giving Y/N a half-guilty, half-exasperated look. She followed him, dreading their reaction.

Petunia was ushering Dudley into a chair; he was still very green and clammy-looking. Vernon was glaring between Harry and Y/N through tiny, narrowed eyes.

'What have you done to my son?' he said in a menacing growl.

'Nothing,' said Y/N and Harry at the same time.

'What did they do to you, Diddy?' Petunia asked her son. 'Was it- was it you-know-what, darling? Did they use - that thing?'

Slowly, tremulously, Dudley nodded.

'We didn't!' Harry said sharply, hating the fact that he dragged Y/N into this mess. 'It wasn't us, it was-'

But at that precise moment, a screech owl swooped in through the open kitchen window. It soared across the kitchen and dropped two envelopes at Y/N's feet, before turning and zooming outside again.

'OWLS!' bellowed Vernon, slamming the kitchen window shut. 'OWLS AGAIN! I WILL NOT HAVE ANY MORE OWLS IN MY HOUSE!'

Y/N gave Harry the envelope addressed to him and ripped open her own.

Dear L/N,

We have received intelligence that you performed the Patronus Charm at twenty-three minutes past nine this evening in a Muggle-inhabited area and in the presence of a Muggle.
