Mornings at the beginning of May dawned bright and warm. All was quiet in the residence. The only sounds came from the birds chirping outside the bedroom window.

Sunlight filtered into the room through the blinds, poking Y/N's shut eyelids, prompting them gently to open. She shifted in bed, rotating to face away from the window. A pair of arms snaked around her waist and pulled her closer. Y/N did not resist them, nuzzling into the warmth of Harry's torso, her mind slowly slipping back into slumber.

Barely had Y/N fallen asleep when the doorknob's rattle and the door opening's quiet squeak awakened her once more. She did not open her eyes, wanting to concentrate on resting more.

Light footsteps approached the bed, and the mattress sank as someone clambered onto it. Y/N kept her eyes resolutely shut. A small hand patted her shoulder gently.

'Wakey wakey,' whispered a voice above her.

Y/N hummed but made no effort to move.

'Y/N,' whispered the voice again, though this time a little louder. 'Harryyy, wake uuup!'

When neither Y/N nor Harry responded, there was a frustrated huff. Seconds later, Y/N felt the full weight of a four-year-old child fall on top of her and Harry.

'Teddy... Mummy and Daddy are sleeping,' mumbled Harry, his voice reverberating in his chest.

'You sleep talk?' asked Teddy in a sceptical tone.

'Sure do, bud,' said Harry.

Suddenly, with a swiftness a man who has just woken up shouldn't have, Harry scooped up Teddy and got to his feet. Y/N opened her eyes and saw Harry raise the boy to the ceiling, all while Teddy squealed and kicked his feet in the air.

'Someone's full of energy today,' chuckled Harry.

'Do the spinny thingy!' squeaked Teddy.

Giggles filled the room as Harry spun on the spot, holding up the laughing Teddy. Y/N sat up in bed and watched the joyous pair with a smile.

Harry stopped spinning around and sat Teddy on one of his shoulders. He swept his ruffled hair out of his face with one hand while holding the blue-haired boy with the other.

'Why don't we go have some breakfast, huh?' said Harry, turning to look at Y/N. 'Coming, Nix?'

Y/N got to her feet and stretched her arms above her head, yawning.

'OK, but I want Dobby to make it!' said Teddy.

'Wow, is my cooking that bad?' Harry asked in mock offence.

'Nooo,' said Teddy, patting Harry on the head.

He twisted around to look at Y/N, put a finger on his lips and nodded slowly. Y/N stifled a laugh.

'What's so funny?' Harry asked Y/N as she walked over to him, grinning.

'Nothing,' she said, pecking him on the lips. 'Your cooking is amazing, darling.'

'Course it is,' said Harry, nodding to himself.

The kitchen was small yet practical. A window over the counter opened into the garden, where flowers bloomed and bees buzzed busily about, collecting nectar and fertilising plants. Squirrels scurried around, climbing up trees and picking up anything that had fallen from them.

The house was cosy, nothing too luxurious, with enough rooms for three people to live comfortably. After a couple of years of living in Grimmauld Place and spending multiple weekends at the Burrow, Y/N and Harry bought the house in the countryside near Godric's Hollow.
