Their first examination, Theory of Charms, was scheduled for Monday morning. Harry agreed to test Y/N after lunch on Sunday.

'What is the name and incantation used for summoning objects and describe the wand movement,' Harry read from the book.

'The summoning charm, Accio, and... er... is it like an arc shape or something?' said Y/N slowly.

'Uh...' Harry checked the book, flipping the pages.

'Give me that.' She snatched the book so hard she accidentally hit him hard on the nose with the sharp edge of Achievements in Charming.

'Nix, why don't you just do it yourself?' said Harry firmly, his eyes watering.

Y/N leaned over and pecked him swiftly on the nose before burying her own nose in the book.

Breakfast was a very subdued affair the next day and none of the fifth- or seventh-years spoke very much. Parvati was practising incantations under her breath; Hermione was reading her Charms book so fast that her eyes appeared blurred; and Neville kept dropping his knife and fork and knocking over the marmalade.

Only Y/N seemed to actually be focusing on eating a full breakfast, though she was going over all the spells she had learned in her mind.

Once breakfast was over, they milled around in the Entrance Hall while the other students went off to lessons; then, at half-past nine, they were called forwards class by class to re-enter the Great Hall, which had been rearranged so that instead of the four house tables, there were many tables in neat rows, all facing the staff table where Professor McGonagall stood facing them.

When they were all seated and quiet, she said, 'You may begin,' and turned over an enormous hourglass on the desk beside her, on which there were also spare quills, ink bottles and rolls of parchment.

Y/N turned over her paper and read the first question: a) Give the incantation and b) describe the wand movement required to make objects fly.

Y/N had a fleeting memory of a club soaring high into the air and landing loudly on the thick skull of a troll... smiling slightly, she bent over the paper and began to write.

The next day, they had their Transfiguration exam; Y/N thought she had done well on both the theoretical and practical examination, but had forgotten how the Vanishing Spell was written.

On Wednesday was their Herbology exam, then on Thursday, Defence Against the Dark Arts. Y/N was sure she had gotten almost all of the questions right.

After lunch, they were to take the practical examination. They waited in a chamber off the Hall, practising wand movements and incantations under their breath.

When Y/N's name was called, she grasped her wand firmly and entered the Great Hall with four other students who shared her last name's initial.

Professor Umbridge was watching coolly from near the doors of the Great Hall. Y/N took pleasure in performing all the counter-jinxes and defensive spells they had learned during the DA meetings.

'Oh, bravo!' cried Professor Tofty, one of the examiners, when Y/N demonstrated a perfect Boggart banishing spell. 'Very good indeed! Well, I think that's all, L/N... unless...'

He leaned forwards a little.

'I heard, from my dear friend Tiberius Ogden, that you can produce a Patronus? For a bonus point...?'
