《 Chapter 3 》

I lay in bed staring up at the ceiling. The room was dark and chilly, nearly everyone was sound asleep.

My mind kept replaying today's events. This morning I woke up a cook, and now I end the day as a recruit. "Y/n.." Whispered Gordi from underneath.

"Hey, everything alright?" I rolled to my side and looked down at him. He seemed concerned, but I knew why.

Azulin still hadn't come back.

"I'm sorry to bother you it's just...well I'm worried about my brother." Gordi hugged his knees, glancing at the door hoping his sibling would come walking through it any moment now.

Hopping down from my bunk, I sat beside Gordi "He seemed pretty upset earlier. Give him time, he'll come back."

"You're right. I haven't seen him upset like that in..." Gordi paused "...a long time."

"Hm, it happens. Anger gets the best of us sometimes." I knew from experience, "Nothing we can do but move past it and grow."

Gordi smiled warmly. It brought him joy that someone was willing to look past his brother's flaws the same way he would.

'Creak'

The door creaked as it was pushed open. There stood Azulin. His bright blue eyes scanned the room before landing on Gordi and I.

'Why are they together?' Jealous thoughts poisoned Azulin's mind as he stepped inside.

"See? Told you." Smiling at Gordi, he let out a sigh of relief. As Azulin walked over to us, I stood up from the bed and whispered "You're back. We were worried about you." That's when I noticed Azulin holding a book beneath his arm.

'We?'

Azulin's face lit up for a moment, his heart racing. Then, he cleared his throat "I needed to clear my mind. Get your rest Y/n." He leaned into my ear, his whisper sending chills through my (f/c) skin "You heard what the Sergeant said, training is going to be hell."

Due to the room being dark, Azulin couldn't see my face go red. But I felt his smirk.

"Yeah you're r...right." Climbing up to my bunk, I took one final glance at the two brothers "Goodnight."

"Goodnight!" Whispered Gordi as Azulin climbed onto their bed.

"Goodnight Y/n." Azulin too whispered, the smirk still lingering. He made her nervous, and he knew it. As a matter of fact he was beginning to enjoy it.

A beautiful girl taking a liking to him was well, an ego booster. He was all for it, but that wasn't the only reason. Since he is the best, it was only fitting to have partner that fit those standards as well. Only time would tell.

"Little brother, I couldn't sleep without knowing you were safe." Gordi wrapped his arms around his sibling, hugging him firmly. The jealous thoughts receded for now. "I'm fine. You know I'd never just leave you like that." Azulin sent his brother a reassuring smile, "Hey look...look at what Padre gave me."

Azulin placed the thick book on his lap, opening it to the first page.
