"Well done Azulin." Sergeant Caricias spoke, "We all needed something like this."
Azulin seemed proud of himself, which was honestly an understatement. His ego only grew by this praise, especially once the crew celebrated this discovery.
"Yes! It's finally party time tonight." Cheered one of the Mimosin twins.
The creature squirmed between my palms seemingly desperate to be free, "Guys, I don't think-...".
Then a familiar voice called out.
"Leave that creature alone!" As Sonrisas was about to sink his teeth in, Father swooped by, smacking the creature right off the soldier's hands, "It's a drug."
"A drug?" Sonrisas sighed as the creature sped away within the grass.
"The sacred book forbids it! "You will not consume forbidden colored meats. They're the fruit of the devil." Father quoted from the thick, heavy book he held.
The Sergeant was visibly upset, "Shut up Father. Enough with your religious prayers and gibberish!".
Caricias neared, startling Father. This earned a gasp from everyone! I set the creature down and took a step towards the commotion, "Sergeant with all due respect, he's right. In my time in the kitchen, Chef constantly told us to never serve nor eat these things! They're quite literally drugs."
"Shut up soldier, I don't recall giving you permission to speak." The Sergeant sent me a glare, before turning his gaze back to Father, "Don't you see? These soldiers are fucked up. Look at them!".
My stomach dropped. I really had no say in the matter? So I stood there, staring as the situation would unfold, feeling rather ashamed at being shut down.
The crew said nothing. Each one of them were exhausted, and clearly starved.
So, so starved.
Azulin looked my way, a sly smirk lingering by, "Loosen up a little Y/n. I just solved the answer to our problem."
"Azulin.." My low, soft voice whispered, "I appreciate you trying but these things will do us no good, they're drugs."
It was like talking to a brick wall. He found these creatures, he's the reason they won't starve. Why can't she see that? She should also be praising him.
Despite his smirk, Azulin glared at the girl. 'Her obedience is lacking..' His truly wicked mind raced, 'I'll fix that soon'. As his infatuation grew, as did the desire to mold her to his liking.
"God can back off tonight." Sergeant Caricias' voice boomed through the trees. Any nearby critters and insects scattered off in fear.
"God can't wait, not ever! What lack of morality." Father argued, then pulled out a pendant from within his pocket "The chain's still waiting for you, you're not worthy of God's love."
A deep growl rumbled within the Sergeant, "That's enough! There is no God in this place." Caricias yanked the collar on Father's suit as he yelled, "We're in a war, a bloody War!".
