"May God protect us!" Father yelled and threw his hands out to the air.
The ground beneath our boots trembled as the creatures neared. The trees hovering above me began to sway, leaves gliding off the crooked branches.
Azulin's words were of no comfort to me. With a gasp I turned to glare at him.
His smirk widened. For a split second, the very look in those cold, blue eyes told me everything. One could describe his gaze as a hungry predator staring at its soon to be prey. Ready to strike.
Shivers traveled down my (f/c) fur. Never before had I seen such a predatory gaze. Not even on these damn Unicorns.
How, why, when?
Azulin wasn't always like this. Right?
So many questions filled my mind."Hurry, in position!" Coco ordered. All of us that remained quickly rushed over.
Shaking fingers, wobbling legs, racing hearts.
We stood in line, shoulder by shoulder. "Aim!" Coco tugged the arrow through the bow. We all did the same.
Despite the immense fear, the crew was eager to bring death upon their enemy. These creatures, no..monsters had already claimed the lives of two of their comrades. Now it was time to return the favor.
"Now!"
The arrows rapidly flew across the air. Down they went, colliding with the flesh of the oncoming creatures.
Except mine. It landed straight into a nearby bush.
But that didn't stop those damned Unicorns.
They charged forward and eventually they closed the gap.
Coco threw himself to the side, nearly getting pierced by the oncoming horns. In that moment Azulin clutched my arm and soon we were both tumbling to the side, avoiding being hit by the three raging beasts.
He landed right on top, practically pinning me to the ground. "See? What did I tell you." His voice shook, a low chuckle following his words.
Pained cries echoed through the thick mess of trees.
One Unicorn lunged forward, bringing its horn right through Panda's chest. He gasped at the sudden impalement. It was quick, and it was fatal. Instantly his body went limp as it was then flung to the side.
Sergeant Caricias fled. He ran as fast as his two legs could take him, a flood of tears rolling down his aching cheeks. But he also met a similar fate to Panda. Another Unicorn caught up, and in a swift movement it penetrated the Sergeant with its sharp horn.
As Caricias cried out with excruciating pain, the beast neighed with victory before tossing the body across the air.
"No..no!" Despite laying beneath Azulin, I was still able to see everything unfold. My comrades, my friends were all getting slaughtered.
His body pressed down on me, and his shadow loomed over my figure, "I'm going to get us out of this. Remember?"
His low, sultry words made me shudder. Then I stared up at him, my body trembling from the horror of this state of affairs.
