*Ciel's POV*

One week had passed since the exams, now everyone was waiting for the results of what they scored and who needs to stay for the break. I was walking through the halls with Deuce as we were making our way to class. Deuce was telling me more about his mother and grandmother since I gotten curious. As we continued walking and talking to one another, we both hear the sounds of running, shouts, and laughter. We both looked forward to see that Ace was chasing Grim around in a circle.

"Huh?" We both said as the two continued their antics

"Hold it right there, Grim! You're not gettin' off easy today, you hear me?!" Ace shouts as Grim was laughing.

"Myeh heh heh! Maybe you shoulda put your name on it if you wanted it that bad!"

"Why, you...!" Ace stopped as me and Deuce walked forward with serious look on our faces.

"Fighting again? What is it this time?" I questioned at the sight but had a look of disappointment

"Seriously, don't they ever get tired of this?" Deuce sighs in disappointment.

"Hey, Ciel! You're the prefect, so do some prefecting! This lousy furball swiped the doughnut I bought and ate it! AGAIN." Ace pointed towards Grim, who was smirking.

"I didn't steal nothin' I just saw a snack left abandoned on a desk and gave it a home outta the goodness of my heart."

"It's not abandoned if it's on somebody's desk! If you're gonna keep runnin', I've got some wind magic up my sleeve with your name on it." Ace shouts

"Oh YEAH? Try me! I've got fire magic ready to—" I cut Grim off as I glared at the two.

"Try it and you both will regret."

"...Erk!" The two flinches before looking back at each other, at first I thought the two would continue despite my warning but what happened next surprised me.

"Y'know what? I think I'll skip the magic today. I don't wanna get sent to wash even MORE windows." Ace stated with an uneasy look.

"H-heh. For once, I think you've got the right idea. I'd be embarassin' myself if I was the only one usin' magic, so I'll let you off easy this time." Grim said nervously but pretending that everything's okay.

"...Hm?" I questioned

"Wow. It's not every day I see you two de-escalate one of your fights without outside intervention. Normally, you go at it until the classroom's blasted to bits and the headmage comes storming in." Deuce stated in confusion.

"Hey, what kinda punk would I be if I started fighting with a weasel over one lousy doughnut?" Ace explains

"Why do you always have to get in one last smart remark?!" Grim exclaims with a glare, which makes Ace laugh in response.

'They're acting strange... I wonder why?' I thought to myself as I looked at the two.

After that was dealt with, we all went to class as today was said to be the day we get our exam scores back. I looked towards the three after I noticed a nervous look on their faces, wondering if they did good enough. This caused me to worry because their behavior was out of the ordinary, even Riddle asked me what was wrong with them, only for to say I don't know. Which confused him deeply as I was closer to them. I shake my head to rid of those thoughts, thinking they were worried they didn't do so good, as we enter the classroom and got in our seats. After a couple of minutes, Crewel walks into the room with a smile on his face as the other students went to their seats.

"It's time for class to start, whelps. Get to yours seats. First, I'll pass back your tests." Crewel informed us while holding a stack of graded tests.

"This is it—the moment of truth." Deuce stated with a serious look

"Yeah... I hope we did good." I said as I was feeling a bit nervous but also some pride.

"Myah hah! Gimme! Gimme! I want that test, Prof!" Grim began to move forward

"Settle down, Grim. Stay. STAY!" Crewel orders as I grab Grim's collar and pulled him back.

"Sorry about him, Professor Crewel..." I apologized, which earned me a nod from the professor as he looked towards another student.

"I'll call you by your class number. Number one!"

Each of the students began to get up one by one once they heard their number being called to get their tests. I saw that my friends were getting a little impatient and anxious as the minutes passed. Then it was my turn as I went to grab my tests with Grim following afterwards, I thanked Crewel after I got my tests back before heading back to my seat. After sometime, everyone was seating back in their seats with their tests. Me and the trio looks at each other before flipping our tests over to see our score, after looking at it for a few seconds, Ace cheered.

"SWEET! I got a 92!"

"I got an 88! I never thought I'd see the day I scored over 80." Deuce said, very surprised

"I got a 95! A lot higher than what I was expecting to score." I stated with a proud smile and relief.

"Check it out, Ciel! I got an 85!" Grim cheered as he showed his tests to me.

"You went from falling grades to an 85?!" I stated in a surprised tone, causing Ace and Deuce to laugh a bit.

"Hey, I don't like what you're implyin'!" Grim exclaims, which made us laugh before Crewel cleared his throat to gain everyone's attention.

"You appear to have studied a great deal for this exam. Yes... A great deal indeed, compared to your quiz scores. In fact, the class average has gone up to a degree one might call...unusual." We all looked at him in confusion.

"Unusual? Has something like this never happened before?" I questioned as Crewel gave a nod.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" Ace asked, curious about what Crewel was talking about.

"The average test scores across every level of potionology are over 90. Professor Trein has remarked upon similarly positive trends in his magic history classes." Crewel explains in a serious tone, shocking all of us.

"Excuse me?!" I exclaim in shock

"Say what?!" Deuce questioned

"Mraaah?!" Grim shouts

"Uh-oh. I don't like where this is going..." Ace said nervously as the other students were talking to one another.

"The school's fifty highest achievers will be posted in the hall. You can look forward to seeing that shortly. Now, let us begin today's lesson. Open your textbooks." Crewel states, not wanting to waste anymore time.

Everyone did as told and quickly puts their tests into their bags as we were allowed to keep them. I grabbed my textbook and motioned for Grim to get on my shoulder so he can read with me, which he does. We all began to read through the pages as Crewel spoke as we were following along with him. After a couple of minutes, I felt Grim was shaking as I looked to see that despite trying to hide it, he was nervous. I raised an eyebrow before looking around to see that the others classmates, Ace, and Deuce were nervous. It was if they did something wrong, which confused me even more.

'Why is everyone nervous?... Something's not right...'
