Lobster Claws part 2

Comet's POV

"Okay, Lobster Claws. The key to being good is 'do unto others as you'd have them do to you.'", Marco explained as the four of us walked down the street. Star and I were following him, and I kept a sharp eye on Lobster Claws. 

We had experienced the attitude of his kind ever since we moved to Earth, and mom had once told me how she had to fight monsters herself in order to end the Monster War back when she was our age. Needless to say, I was less than excited to have a monster among us. Then again... I shouldn't be prejudiced. 

I sighed silently, deciding to at least give him a chance. Who was to say that he couldn't become the first nice monster?

Just as I thought that, I heard someone falling from their bicycle. I was startled, and looked what had happened. Lobster Claws was standing there, his arm stretched out and his claw balled into a fist (?). Of course. Why was I not surprised that had happened?

"Okay, that's 100% wrong and you want to do the opposite. Now say you're sorry", Marco told Lobster Claws. "This is too hard. I'm never gonna get this", Lobster Claws complained.

I couldn't help but feel the seed of resentment growing in my heart. This mons- this person- didn't even have the tiniest bit of determination to try harder. Star, too seemed to be fed up with him. This was one of the times I was happy she was this blunt. That way, I didn't have to voice my ugly thoughts. "Yeah. You should just give up",  Star said mockingly.

"Okay. Don't listen to her", Marco said, "Uh, the next time you get the urge to punch somebody, just imagine how it would feel if it happened to you." Lobster Claws listened to him, before yelling "I got the urge! ...Wow, that totally would've hurt." His shoulders slumped and he returned to a calm state.

We continued walking down the street. Star started slowing down slightly. I glanced at her and slowed my pace too. It was obvious she wanted to tell me something.

"This is never going to work ", she quietly ranted. "We need to get him away from us, before his monster nature is going to make him steal our wands." I nodded. "But we can't just simply kick him out", I told her, "it wouldn't be very nice of us. And besides, he'd probably cause even more trouble if we just let him wander around Echo Creek."

Our conversation was cut short by the sobs of a little girl. "Aww, what's wrong?", Marco asked her. "My kitty's stuck in the twee", the girl said, pronouncing the r like a w. I looked up and saw a cat on one of the tree branches. 

"Lobster Claws, this is your chance", Marco said. Lobster Claws climbed up into the tree. The small girl looked up with teary eyes, and exclaimed "Careful with Mr. Mittens!"

Lobster Claws grabbed the cat (as gently as he could), and presented it to the girl as soon as he was back on the ground. "Thank you so much, Mr. Lobster Man!", the girl cheered. Marco turned to us and said "See? I knew there was some good in him."

The screech of the cat made us looked at Lobster Claws alarmed. We gasped when we saw the cat's tail hanging out of his mouth. Star quickly retrieved the cat from his mouth, and glared at Marco. "Now do you see what we're dealing with?!"

"Mr. Mittens is fine. No harm, no fou-" Marco screamed when he saw the girls leg hang out of Lobster Claws' mouth. With the help of Marco and Star pulling on her leg, and me using some magic, we were able to save the girl before something drastic happened. The girl looked completely shocked, before running away with her cat, bawling her eyes out.

"Okay, that was my fault. I assumed you knew this, but... you can't eat children", Marco said. "Really? Not even annoying ones?", Lobster Claws asked. "Never!", Marco exclaimed.

Suddenly, we heard a woman yelling for help. We ran towards the sound, only to see a house on fire, and a woman in front of it. "Help me! My baby is still inside!", she yelled. "Your baby?!", we exclaimed alarmed.

Lobster Claws quickly ran towards the burning house. "Don't worry. Red boy's got it!", he said. "And I'm totally not going to eat it!"

Star and I used our magic to extinguish the fire. "Cotton Candy Fire Extinguish!", Star yelled, conjuring up mounds of cotton candy. "Lunar Tide!", I exclaimed, using the water in the air to put out the fire.

"My baby! Oh, my baby, my sweet baby", the woman yelled, running up to a... piano? "My sweet grand piano! Were you scared? Tell me what you're feeling." The woman played a single note on the piano, and it automatically played a melody. "Camptown ladies sing this song, doo-dah, doo-dah", the woman sang.

"Oh, I was wondering where that piano music was coming from", Marco mumbled. "Um, where is Lobster Claws?", I asked. We went to the back of the house, and found Lobster Claws  sitting on the ground, eating the contents of an ice cream cart.

"Uh..." Star, Marco and I exchanged questioning looks. "I mean, he's not eating humans. That's a step forward", Marco said.

We had to struggle fifteen minutes until we finally managed to drag him away from the ice cream. We arrived at a crosswalk, where an old lady was slowly crossing the street. "Okay, here's an easy one. Help the old lady cross the street", Marco told Lobster Claws. 

Lobster Claws scurried up to the lady, offering to help her. "I'd say he's starting to get this", Marco said. Star scoffed "Well, I'm not taking my eyes off him for a sec-"

We looked to Lobster Claws, and collectively screamed. Somehow, in the few seconds we had been distracted, he had managed to set the city on fire. The lady he was supposed to help now was running away from him as he held up a car. The crosswalk was filled with panicking people, pointing at Lobster Claws. A news reporter arrived with the camera. 

We ran to Lobster Claws, making him put down the car and quickly ran away from the area, and back home. Seems like Marco's lessons had failed today.
