Comet's POV:

"Alright, you guys can be alone for an hour, right? Just don't do use anything you don't really know yet", Marco said, getting ready to go to his karate classes. "Yes, yes, we'll be fine", Star told him for the tenth time now, pushing him to the door.

"Okay, so if you're hungry you can take the snacks in the cabinet, don't touch the oven or stove-"

"We know, Marco!", Star stopped him, "Come on, Comet and I have been alone at yours multiple times now. Nothing will happen. Now go before you're late!"

We stood next to each other in the living room. "Star, we need to talk", I told her when the front door had fallen close behind Marco. "Hmm? Sure what's going on?"

In our room, Star sat down on her bed and watched me, waiting for me to start.

I was fiddling with my wand and pacing around nervously, unsure how to start this conversation. For days now, I had tried to gather knowledge about the Septarians, but with only limited Mewnian books available, my search had been fruitless. The most I found was that this race of monsters were highly feared for their ability to quickly regenerate any limb, making them nearly invulnerable to normal combat means.

"Have you... noticed a difference in Ludo's army?", I asked Star finally. She tilted her head in confusion. Apparently, she had not.

"I don't know when exactly it started, but they have come closer and closer to actually stealing our wands. Their plans are now much more advanced than just attacking impulsively", I explained, "Remember that hair incident a few days ago? When the monsters attacked, I noticed a new one. But... he was different."

Star had stopped kicking her legs. "I mean... I guess Ludo would hire more monsters." She grinned, "We must be too hard to beat, he needed backup."

I shook my head. "No, Star, that monster wasn't there to fight us. He was completely different. Normally, the monsters are brute and impulsive, but this one... He seemed so calm and collected. As if he knew something we don't..." I shivered, remembering his piercing gaze. It had been as if he was staring right into my soul...

Star had stood up, playing around with her wand. "So there's one more monster, who cares?"

"I'm telling you, Star, he is more dangerous than you think", I tried to convince her firmly, "I don't think we'll be able to defend ourselves with brute force anymore... If we loose our wands to Ludo, it would mean the downfall of Mewni. We cannot allow that to happen..."

I walked to the balcony and leaned my elbows on its railing. I looked down into the street. Everyone else was enjoying the weekend; from here I could see the younger children of Marco's neighbors playing in their backyards. If only we could be as carefree; If only we didn't have this duty of keeping the wands safe, despite only being magic beginners...

I wiped away a small tear forming in my eye. "Aw, Comet, don't worry so much", Star tried to comfort me. With a small smile she leaned her back on the railing. "We never failed to win against these monsters, and we won't even if there really is one more. Even if it means we'll have to outsmart them."

"... I just... I have felt really scared the past few days, and I don't know why", I admitted to her, "This new monster... my gut tells me he is evil in a way that Ludo wasn't... I don't want anything bad happen to you or Marco..."

I felt Star's arms wrap around me. "And nothing will...", she assured.

I turned to her and hugged her tightly. Star sighed a bit.

"If it really scares you that much, then I promise I'll be more careful now. Would that be enough for you to feel safer?", she asked. I could only nod, for a lump of anxiety had formed in my throat, preventing me from saying anything.

"Then let's do that. Don't worry. You're not alone."

A/N:

Only one more episode left for season one! I honestly cannot believe just how much time has passed since I first started this fanfiction. To be fair, there has been long periods of times when I hadn't updated at all. I want to thank you all for always being so patient and showing so much support for this story <3
