Marco's POV:
I was standing by my locker, taking out my math book. "Star! Hurry up!", I urged her, seeing her still on the other side of the hallway with Comet. "We're coming!", she yelled back. Followed by Comet, she floated to the lockers on her cloud, surrounded by little heart creatures.
"Hey Cloudy, can you put me down?", she asked the cloud when she and Comet arrived by my side. "Sure thing, Star!", the cloud - Cloudy - chirped, and extended a rainbow for her to slide down on it. "Thanks guys, you're the best", Star said with a cheeky smile. "We love you Star", Cloudy and the heart creatures all cheered.
"Aww, I love you too", Star gushed, before getting out her wand and zapping the creatures away as they screamed in terror. I shivered uncomfortably, and closed my locker. "Can you do anything without magic?", I sarcastically asked her as she struggled to open her locker. "Sunshine Locker Slap!", she yelled. With a blast from her wand, a minotaur appeared and rammed her locker open.
"Love you, Star", the minotaur said, before running off, with the locker's door still stuck to its horns. "Mmm.", I hummed, unamused.
"Let her be, Marco", Comet sighed, closing her locker, "Star's still in her magic honeymoon phase..."
"'You use too much magic, ah-ah-ah, blah-blah-blah-bla-blah'", Star mocked us, blowing a raspberry.
"Hey Comet, hey Marco!", Jackie greeted, riding past us on her skateboard. I held my hand up for a wave, as she smiled and continued on. Man, Jackie is so pretty...
I saw her stop by Blake. "Hey Blake, sweet beard." I felt my smile falter a little as I heard Jackie admiring Blake's beard. "Eh, thanks, Jackie. I grew it last night", Blake boasted. I turned away.
"One night? I've been working on mine for weeks", I complained to the twins. "Well, do you know what the quickest way to grow a beard is?", Star suggested, smirking at me.
"Is it-" "It's MAGIC!", she cut me off, using her wand to conjure a flying horse. "Magic...", the horse whispered, before flying away.
"I'll stick with my peach fuzz, thanks", I told her, "This may not be much, but it's mine." "Marcooo", Star groaned, "I've got a magic wand. I might as well use it." "A magic wand we're theoretically not supposed to use outside of training...", Comet mumbled.
"Comet, you're starting to sound like Mom. Besides, if you really look at it, using my wand in day-to-day life counts as practicing", Star argued, blasting her face with magic to conjure a beard on her face and a platypus on top of her head.
I looked to Comet, who sighed with a small smile and shrugged her shoulders. "Let's just go to class." She and I went ahead. "Wha- Hey! Let me put a beard on you!", Star yelled, running after us.

Comet's POV:
Magic blasts zapped around the room as Star and I were getting ready for bed. "I don't get why Marco won't let us help him. It would be sooo much faster", she said.
"Well, sometimes people want to accomplish something on their own, without external help. For example, I know I would never use magic for my art. If I did, it wouldn't really feel like I actually made it", I tried to explain.
"Hmmm... I guess so", Star absentmindedly said, playing with the plushies on her bed, "But I could still help out with just an itty bitty little bit of magic." "Did you even listen to what I just said?"
Before Star could reply, our mirror started to glow, signaling someone was calling us. Star jumped up from bed. "It's Mom and Dad! Hey Dad! Hey Mom!", she greeted them, picking up the call.
"Hello Star", I heard Dad's booming voice, just as loud as hers. I walked up behind Star, waving at them "Hello Mom, hello Dad."
"Hello dear", Mom greeted, "we wanted to check in on you two. How are you? How's school?"
"School's amazing!", Star answered enthusiastically, "Mom, did you know Earth has this crazy magic called science? It's like alchemy and spells combined!" Mom seemed a bit surprised, unsure how to answer that. "That sounds... lovely, Star. How are your studies in magic?"
"We're still learning the basics", I replied. "And we practice real hard", Star added with a cheeky smile, "every day."
"That is good to hear", Mom said, "Remember girls, don't try to use advanced spells until Glossaryck tells you to. And don't use your wands outside of practice unless it's an emergency. I'm talking to you, Star!" "Of course, of course! Totally, totally, totally" Star nodded energetically, "We should go to bed now. Good night!"
Mom and Dad nodded. "Goodnight girls. Take care of each other." "Good night, we love you", Star and I said, waving goodbye. Star finally hung up.
I let out a small yawn. "You totally lied to Mom", I accused Star. She only smiled. "I wasn't lying. It's called 'stretching the truth'."
We climbed into our beds, and Star used her magic to turn off the lights.

"I did it! I grew a beard! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!", Marco cheered in the bathroom. "Good for you, Marco." I smiled at him a little, brushing my hair. Star stood next to me with her wand. Her rush was levitating, brushing her hair with magic. "Yeah, congratulations", she said, grinning at him, "It look really good on you."
"Star, why are you making that face?", Marco asked her, his suspicion immediately heightened by her smug expression. "What face? I don't make face", Star hastily claimed, sweat dripping from her temples. "Star...", I started. "You used magic on me, didn't you?", Marco asked accusingly. "Uhh... Nope?", Star tried to lie, failing terribly.
"Aw come on Star!", Marco groaned. "You come on!", Star defended, "You look so good in your little beardy...!" "Star, that's not the point", I told her. "I wanted to grow it myself!", Marco stated. He picked up a razor to cut off the hair Star's magic had conjured.
But when put the razor to his face, his beard suddenly started to grow rapidly. "Woah!", I let out when the hair pushed me into the door of the bathroom. "Star! My face!", Marco panicked. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I thought it was a basic spell! I didn't think this would happen!", Star yelled. All the hair had pushed her up the wall of the bathroom.
Suddenly, the hair started to grow even more, and even faster. I was pushed out of the bathroom and fell downstairs. I closed my eyes, bracing for impact, but it never came.
My fall was abruptly interrupted, about 30 centimeters off the ground, before I fell that bit to the ground.
"Ow", I mumbled, trying to get up. The ground was kinda soft... and tangly...? "Huh? Whoa!"
I stumbled back, when I realized I was sitting on hair. Not only that, but I was practically encased in bundles of dark hair. "Star? Marco? Are you okay?", I called out, but no answer came. I tried to pull out my wand and create some sort of light to see better, only to find that it was not with me anymore.
"Aw, great", I grumbled. I stood up, my feat sinking into the hair a bit, as if it was a layer of thick snow. I slowly tried to find out where I was by holding out my hands to feel any furniture or wall... My hands grabbed onto something liquid. "Ah, ew!", I quickly pulled away. "Wait..."
The liquid had hardened into a thin layer of wax. "Candles...", I mumbled, picking off the wax. I slowly moved my hand to the candle to pick it up. If the wax had been liquid, it had to have been lit shortly before...
My hand found the lighter. Quickly I used it to light the candle. Now I could see in the flickering light that I was in the living room. The candle emitted a sweet scent. It was one of those scented ones Mrs. Diaz loved...
"Okay, okay, I need a plan. Find Star, find wand, and make everything go back to normal", I said to myself.
