Marco's POV
"Hey, Marco?"
"Hmm?"
"Wanna have the best sandwich in all of the dimensional planes?"
Was that even English?
"You know what? Sure."

"Why did I ever agree to this?", I mumbled as Star and I walked deeper into this strange cave, the walls littered with tubes.
I knew why I had though. Comet was out at the library, and I had promised her to keep an eye on Star for her. Now that I thought of it, Comet had gotten quite a bit more reclusive the past few weeks. Kinda like when she and Star first got here...
"Mmm... Some of these have the best sandwiches", Star said, snapping me out of it. She stopped at one of the tubes and reached inside. "Oh, don't put your hand in there", I tried telling her, "Are you sure this is safe?"
"I never said that."
She pulled her arm out again and looked at me with a smile. "Come on Marco, you try." I looked at the tube, her, and then my arm. "Uhh... no. Absolutely not." "Suit yourself..." Star turned around again and reached into the tube once more.
I let my gaze wander a bit. "AHH!" I immediately snapped back to Star, who was getting sucked into the tube. I quickly ran up to her side and started pulling her by her waist. "I gotcha! I gotcha!"
When she finally broke free, we fell to the ground. "Look! Sandwich!", Star excitedly exclaimed, immediately back on her feet. "I think I just twisted my ankle", I groaned.
Suddenly, the cave tubes started to expel steam. "Star? What is going on?", I asked worriedly. "I... don't know", Star admitted. The tube-cave-thing turned around, revealing... an animal?!
It roared loudly and suddenly, my twisted ankle was not an issue anymore. "Star, we need to go. Now!"
We ran out of the cave, and I started climbing down the tree by the cliffside. "Ugh, Marco! We don't have time for this!"
I was suddenly pushed down, and plummeting towards the ground. "STAR! -Ugh!"
The air was pushed out of my lungs as we were catapulted into a bundle of vines. I looked up and found Star hanging sideways above me.
"We better get out before th-", my voice was drowned out by a loud crash and roar. The monster from the cave had actually decided to come after us?! "STAR! We gotta get out of here!"
I looked up, only to see Star distracted by trying to get that stupid sandwich back. "STAR! Pay attention!"
I started wiggling out of the vines, all while the beast was menacingly charging towards us. I reached up to Star's pocket and pulled out the scissors. Just before the beast reached my leg and bit it off, I managed to open the portal, pulling Star and me through it.
Star's POV
Just as I managed to grab hold of the sandwich, I was suddenly pulled away by Marco. The force ripped the sandwich in two before I was standing in the hallway of the Diaz' home again. Marco was still holding me, but let go quickly.
I angrily looked at him. Had I just gotten a moment more, I would have gotten the sandwich, and gotten us out of there no problem! But of course, Mister Safety Kid here just had to decide things on his own again.
"I had it in my hands, Marco", I groaned, "I have no idea what you were thinking." "I was thinking of not dying!", Marco snapped. I felt the heat rising to my face. I hated it when people tried to reprimand me for things that were not my intention. "We weren't going to die! You just started panicking for no reason!"
"What in the world is going on here?", Comet's voice joined in. Her eyes flickered over to the portal. "Star! I told you not to put yourself in danger."
"I wasn't!", I yelled in defense, "And why am I the one to blame? Marco was there too!"
Suddenly, an arm reached out from the portal, grabbing Marco's leg. He screamed and fought it off with the flower pot in the hall. The arm flinched away, knocking the sandwich half against the wall, before returning into the portal. The portal closed again.
"Great. We went through all that trouble and this!", I pointed at the sandwich mush on the wall, "sad little scrap of sandwich is all we have to show for it!"
"You went out for a silly sandwich?!", Comet asked incredulously. "A sandwich is not worth dying for! It's just a stupid piece of food!", Marco said angrily.
I turned away, angrily scraping the mush of the walls, and muttered, "I hate when you act like this. It makes me wonder why we're even friends." I heard Marco taking a deep breath, before abruptly turning and slamming his door behind him.
"That was not nice, Star", Comet said. I huffed. I was not in the mood for her scolding, "So what. It's true." "Star! He was just looking out for the both of you."
I turned to her. "Will you just lay off?! You're starting to sound like Mom!"
Comet pursed her lips and gave me that cold look. I messed up, I immediately thought. Only when she was really mad would she give that stare.
"Fine, Star", she muttered. "Go apologize to him when you're done throwing your tantrum."
