Sunny was finally back in his house, somewhere where he never thought he would be ever again. He was back in this place and alone. After over a week of not being alone, always having someone with him, Sunny felt uncomfortable. He didn't trust himself. He hated himself. He may have told the others about Mari's death, but he didn't truly forgive himself. White Space was still here, floating about, yet Mari's hallucinations had disappeared. Sunny felt shaky as he seemed to shuffle around his dark house like a husk. There was a note in the kitchen from his mom. It read:

Dear Sunny, |
|
I am so sorry for hearing |
about Mari. I am currently |
away on a business trip, |
but when I get back we |

As Sunny was in the kitchen, he looked around. In what little light there was, he could see a glinting knife just left out on the counter top. He walked towards it, picking it up and felt the familiar weight in his hand, welcoming it like an old friend. When he was in the hospital, he could get away with the scars on his arms by saying they were cat scratches, despite the fact that the doctors were suspicious, they didn't pry. Sunny knew where they were from. He had been cutting himself for the past four years, each year he increasingly got deeper, and only recently got distracted from it because Kel was at his door every day, but now... now was different. Sunny was left alone. No one would know. It would be fine. Sunny kept the knife close as he walked up the stairs, watching the shadows move out the corner of his eye. He went into his bedroom, shutting the door quietly behind him, and sat down on the floor beneath his window.
He pressed the cool metal to his arm and cut. He pressed down hard and cut quickly, again and again and again, one arm being cut quickly increased to two arms, then a few on the thighs. By the time he stopped, his arms were running with blood and it was dripping on the floor. He got up and went to the bathroom, washing his arms and bandaging them up, then doing the same to his legs. He returned to his room stuffing the knife in a drawer and pulling on a different pair of shorts and a long sleeve jumper. Sunny finally calmed himself down, then heard a knock at the door.
He stepped cautiously down the stairs, and looked through the glass to see Kel waiting outside. Sunny opened the door, squinting at the bright sunlight.
"Hey, Sunny! Wow, is it dark in there," Kel said, looking past Sunny, "Anyway, I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out?"
Sunny nodded, deciding right then that he wanted to not go outside just then, so instead stepped to the side to let Kel inside. Kel seemed surprised, but stepped inside and waited as Sunny closed the door.
"If you want to hang out here, why don't we head to your room?" Kel suggested offering his hand to Sunny.
Sunny took it gently, seeming calm, but was silently panicking - had he forgotten something in his room? As Kel led Sunny upstairs and into Sunny's room, Sunny felt sick to his stomach when he looked down at the floor. His room seemed normal, until you looked down to the wooden flooring at the foot of his drawers where some small puddles of blood still were. Sunny knew Kel had noticed since he had stopped.
"Hey, Sunny?" Kel muttered, turning slowly to face Sunny, who was staring at his feet, "Why is there blood on your floor?"
"It's nothing," Sunny uttered, letting go of Kel's hand and grabbing some tissues to wipe up the blood.
"Are you sure?" Kel asked again, " 'Cause it looks like-"
As Kel was speaking, he realised what had happened, he wasn't stupid and if it really wasn't anything to worry about, why didn't Sunny just tell him why there was blood on the floor in the first place?
"Sunny, can I see your arms?" Kel asked, no hint of his usual cheerful self in that one sentence. It made Sunny feel sick. Kel slowly approached Sunny, crouching down beside him and slowly shifted up his sleeves. Sunny felt awkward and guilty for Kel seeing it - after everything Kel had done for him since before and after the hospital, this was how Sunny repays him? By hurting himself? Sunny snapped out of his trance when he heard Kel's sniffles. He hated to see Kel upset.
"Sunny..." Kel uttered, hugging Sunny, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I'm sorry," Sunny muttered, tears pricking at his own eyes, but he refused to cry, "I... I can't be alone. I don't feel safe anymore."
Sunny turned his head, looking at Kel with a blank look on his face, watching as Kel just nodded slowly, and Sunny was surprised to see that Kel wasn't actually crying; Kel never cried but recently Sunny was becoming used to it after everything that had happened.
"It's alright," Kel whispered gently, smiling at Sunny, letting go of him, "now I'll never leave your side."
A few hours passed and the two didn't feel awkward around each other, instead a bit safer since they knew they could talk to each other about anything.
"Alright, Sunny," Kel announced with a smile, standing before Sunny, who was sat on his sofa downstairs, "I've called my mom and she said that I can stay over here!"
Sunny felt really pleased that Kel was nice enough to stay with him, despite everything that had happened the past week, but he also felt guilty. Kel wouldn't do this unless he had to, he must take pity on Sunny. Sunny didn't want Kel to take pity on him, instead he just wanted it to go back to what it was like before any of this had happened.
"That's really nice of you, Kel," Sunny started, not wanting to seem mean, "but we don't have another bed for you.."
"Oh, that's fine," Kel said, unfazed by this information, "I'll just sleep on the floor."
"No way!" Sunny exclaimed, refusing to let Kel sleep on the hard floor. Kel was like an angel for him, he could never let his own Savior just do that.
"I'll take the floor," Sunny said, looking up at Kel with his round, dark eyes, "you can sleep on my bed."
Kel rolled his eyes playfully at Sunny, why on earth would he let the person who lived at the house sleep on the floor?
"You know what?" Sunny interrupted, knowing exactly what Kel was thinking, "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, we've got a few hours before the sun sets, so what do you want to do?"
"Do you feel up to a trip in Faraway Town?" Kel suggested, clearly excited, "we can go to Hobeez or Fix-It or OtherMart or-"
"Let's just go to Faraway Park," Sunny said calmly, getting up, "you can show me some if your basketball tricks."
Kel nodded excitedly, the butterflies in his stomach coming back - but no way, he was just excited to be hanging out with Sunny, right? Kel tried to reassure himself, yeah, just excited. Though deep down, he knew that he was starting to fall in love.
