Chapter 08: angry papa

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Lo'ak internally groaned when he met his father's furious gaze. He braces himself for the inevitable lecture and punishment that would surely come, and despite feeling excited to show Jake that they caught the village's thief because of him, the boy knew that his father's anger would not easily be quelled.

Neteyam felt his heart sink when his father suddenly shot him a disappointed look amongst the other dirty looks he was getting from the villagers watching from afar. Their judgment was clear, and though Neteyam didn't physically show it, he could feel himself shrinking under their disapproving gaze.

"That's supposed to be our future chief?! Helping children sneaking out in the middle of the night knowing how dangerous it was for them out there past eclipse?" It's what most of them were probably thinking about their soon-to-be Olo'eyktan.

Spider and Kiri shrank back behind them knowing they were just as guilty, even if they were basically dragged on the 'mission' because of Lo'aks stubbornness.

"What the hell were you thinking boy?!" Jake continued to shout, getting closer and closer to the group with angry stomps and fists bawling so tightly that a vein probably already popped off. "Just leaving in the middle of the night with no ways of communicating with you, and flying out after I had precisely forbidden you to!"

Lo'ak looked down to control his sudden anger. He had planned to quickly apologize and reveal what he caught but his father's words threw him off. Four kids had dropped from their Ikrans after hours, but somehow his screaming was only directed at him.

"How do you even know if it was me..." He mutters, taking offense at being told off before he even knew what happened in the first place.

"Lo'ak." Neteyam warns quietly.

Jake scoffed. Just as they quickly predicted before Lo'ak even had the guts to finish the sentence, their father had gotten visibly even angrier. If that was even possible at this point.

"Oh, yeah?! Who else has the same audacity as you to disobey direct orders and fly around after hours during the night, fully knowing that there are people out there was want us dead uh?! Who else has the audacity to drag around their wounded siblings and a vulnerable human boy to God knows where, fully knowing that you almost got one of them killed not even 24 hours ago?!"

Lo'aks heart sank at those words, and any past confidence to speak was slowly drying out.

Neteyam took a deep breath before hesitantly stepping forward to stand between the two and make sure Lo'ak didn't receive all the heat even if he deserved it.
