Chapter 23: JJ's personal vendetta against the Sully's - pt2.

"Here we go," JJ muttered, his voice barely above a breath as he strapped the large basket onto his back, careful but impatient. Reyn shifted inside, hidden and tense. The island was coming into a very clear view now, and the curious and alerted sounds of the Metkayina people growing louder, the Sullys were moving fast, swooping in tight circles above, and sending out calls. Calling out to the people and to their leaders below in eerie cries.

No matter the chaos circulating them now, JJ only focused on the basket. His grip tightened around the straps until his knuckles turned white.

"You've got this," Reyn whispered from within her confined space, her voice wavering just enough to betray her fear. "Just... whatever you do, don't act suspicious."

JJ scoffed, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. "Suspicious? I'm the goddamn embodiment of unsuspicion."

Reyn's muffled laugh was weak, but it was still there. "That's... That's not a word, Jay."

JJ smirked, his gaze immediately hardening when he saw Jake look back towards them.

"Alright everyone," Jake's voice rang out, a hint of slight fear and discomfort disguised in a nonchalant tone. "Let's go down."

The moment the Ikrans touched the ground, the noise swelled. Villagers rushed from all sides, either if it was by running on sand or swimming through the waters to reach them, eager, alert, and curious.

JJ, standing behind all the Ikrans, in his hidden corner, merely took a small deep breath as he dismounted his beast with his head down. Careful to not stand out too much— Actually, careful not to stand out at all.

The Sullys however, were completely tensed as Jake urged them to all step forward and walk straight into the storm, exposed and vulnerable. Their arms were raised to show they meant no harm, making the impulsive decision to leave their Ikrans behind— their only quick way out if anything went south, along with their weapons. They were desperate to seem harmless. The very image of submission.

JJ couldn't believe his eyes. He couldn't believe that after spending so many years of his childhood almost worshipping this supposedly legendary family, heroes of war; he now had met them face-to-face and couldn't but gape at how they looked so... ridiculously pathetic.

Once upon a time, he would've been in shock, paralyzed almost, to know that such an idol figure in his life, known for his bravery and heroics could stand here laid bare in such a pitiful position. Almost with his knees on the floor at anyone's mercy who would take him in. It was almost laughable now to know that this was still the idol of so many born after him.
