Hell Isnt High

You spend time watching clouds and laughing at a suspiciously phallic shaped one with Swiss.
The grass feels like a feather bed and you'd happily be swallowed up by it if it weren't for the fact you're really hungry now.
"Do you know what the time is?" You ask him
"Not a clue"
"Damn, I'm hungry"
"Me too" he gets up and helps you up, he holds you steady as you sway for a moment. "Woah".
You both laugh.
"Is the grass supposed to spin like that?"
"It'll ease up in a minute" he chuckles.

Once everything stops moving you both make your way to the cafeteria, high fiving upon seeing that its lunch time. You both miss each other's hands and double over laughing.

Surprised you made it to the table without dropping anything you glance at Swiss and you both laugh again.
"Invite us next time" Rain says sitting down looking between you both with the other ghouls.
You snort. "Sorry Rain" Swiss mumbles shoving food into his mouth.
You watch him as he piles food into his mouth. He looks at you, "What?", something falls out of his mouth and you burst into laughter.

Terzo and Copia approach the table cautiously watching you with Swiss.
Copia sits on the other side of you. He looks at you "where were you?".
"We were watching clouds" you shrug giggling.
"Huh?"
"Shes not wrong" Swiss laughs.

"Oh you two are high as hell" Cirrus comments.
"In the middle of the day Swiss?" Sunshine frowns at him.
"It's like you don't even know me!" Swiss huffs
You shake your head, "hell isn't high?".
"Im not going back if it isnt" Swiss erupts into laughter causing you and the rest of the table to laugh with him.

You all make your way to the rec room, you feel your eyes drooping slightly as you're walking there, you stop and change directions deciding to go to your dorm to sleep it off.
"Hey" Cumulus links her arm through yours keeping you upright. "You all good?"
"Mhm" you nod "need bed".
"Clearly" she chuckles taking you to your dorm.

As soon as you hit your pillow you fall asleep. Feeling like you're in a cloud you have the best dreamless sleep you've ever had.
Waking up you check Cumulus' clock, Shit I was out for ages.

Its close to 4am and you're wide awake. Reaching over for the book on your bedside table, you wander out of your dorm quietly going to the seniors common room to make a hot chocolate in the kitchenette there.

Flicking on the light as you walk in.
"Oh shit, sorry I didn't think anyone was in here".
There's a girl sitting in the armchair looking out the window, she looks over at you. "That's ok, I was just looking at the stars" she smiles warmly.
"Is it ok if I just make a drink, I can turn the light off again?", she nods.

You make your drink, wander back over to turn the light off, you stand for a minute, eyes adjusting. Turns out the moonlight was bright enough.
You walk over to the window she's staring out.
"Oh"
"Nice isn't it?"
"Beautiful" you mumble
You look at her, her dark hair shining in the moonlight looking like some gorgoeus elven princess from a story book you read to the kids back in the orphanage. No wonder Terzo has his eyes on her.
"Didn't sleep well?" You ask taking sip.
"Oh no, I just like it when no one else is around, it's quiet and I can watch the sky" she says.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" You move to get out of her space
"No" she laughs "I didn't mean it like that, youre welcome to stay, it is a shared space". She watches you take a seat next to her.
"Your Copias girlfriend", it wasn't a question, you nod.
"And you are the girl refusing to date Terzo, Astrid?" You chuckle. "Smart".
She laughs, she tilts her head "I haven't refused so much as I'm just avoiding, his reputation and all".
You nod knowingly. "Like i said, smart".
She looks at you, "What's Terzo to you?". You look at her confused, "What do you mean?".
She shrugs "You seem close and.. Emily-" you groan loudly "Whatever she has said, please don't believe her! I don't know what her issue is but she has it out for me".
She laughs, "she really does!".
"Terzo is one of my closest friends and that's all it will ever be, hes like a brother"
"That's sweet" she says watching you.
"I didn't believe Emily by the way" she looks back out the window.

You sip your drink. "You should come to one of Terzos parties".
She smiles, "he's already asked me".
"I bet he has" you laugh.
"Oh, we can go together! I'll introduce you to the others, it'll be fun, they are all really nice. I'll tell Terzo your my date". You cackle at the idea.
"What about Copia?"
You scoff "C will be fine, he's a big boy".
"Suns rising" she mumbles.
You both watch the sun wake up in hues of pink and orange.

She leaves not long after leaving you to your thoughts.
Just as you decide to give yourself 15 to read before going back to your dorm a sleepy Terzo walks in. He doesn't spot you right away, walking over to the kitchenette he starts opening and closing cupboards.

"What are you looking for?"
"Che Cazzo?!" He jumps turning in your direction, eyes wide, making you laugh.
He rubs his eyes. "Sugar".
You get up and walk over closing the overhead cupboard he'd opened.
Pushing on his arm slightly to move him out of the way opening the bottom cupboard he was standing in front of and bring out the sugar. "How do you not know this?". He shrugs.
"Thanks" he mumbles not looking at you.

"Terzo, I'm sorry" you pause.
"Can I tell you something?"
He stops what he's doing and sighs looking at you, "you know you can tell me anything" he pulls you into a comforting hug.
He goes back to making his drink, you're staring at your hands.

"Cumulus said some stuff about C and past girlfriends, and then when you were frustraited not knowing what was going on it set me over the edge and made me angry. Swiss talked some sense into me though."
Terzo looks at you, "He did what?"
You laugh "yeah, he asked why I was so focused on possibly getting in trouble when i didnt, when we'd reached out outcome of finding out you're not going to be the "devils dinner"".
He snorts, "Wise man".
"That he is, probably only when he's stoned though"  you both laugh
"Anyway it made me realize that's not what I was upset about, I was overwhelmed with information Papa had told me and then having thoughts about C with other girls" you mumble feeling stupid.

Terzo looks at you, "What did Cumulus say?"
"Oh nothing bad" you wave him off "Just that she knew he was a gentleman from the other girls he dated" you scrunch your eyes, for a moment scolding yourself "which is obviously a good thing, means hes a good person".
Terzo laughs at you, finding your inner crisis amusing.
"Y/n, you literally have nothing and I mean nothing to worry about".
He looks at you taking a sip. "What do you mean?" You ask.
"Have you not seen the way he looks at you?" He laughs. "I mean yes but..."
He's still cackling.
"Would you stop?!"
"No! He has never looked at anyone.... including me" he raises his brows at you making you laugh "the way he looks at you, and I would know, we grew up together".

"Thanks"
He nods, "also when you were first here he wouldn't shut up about you, now he doesn't tell me shit, which is annoying" he takes a sip "cause I want details" he mumbles. You snort with laughter.
"He didn't do that with the others, I used to get all the details, now he keeps them to himself, selfish really" he says more to himself then you swirling his drink.

You smile thinking about what he said.

"Would now be a bad time to get more of what Primo said to you?" He asks concern in his voice.
You tell him everything, including what Papa told you about Terzo thinking of you as a Sister.

He sits for a moment nodding. "You ok?".
He sighs, "Everything... was just a lie then?"
"No, I don't think so, you know better then anyone how big this place is on tradition, it's important, it helped them keep the faith alive". You say watching him
"That doesn't make it ok" he groans.
"That's why I think your brother told me, imagine just how angry you'd be if it came from him, look at him, breaking from the tradition, still keeping the faith alive". You smile.
"Thank you sorellina", he reaches over and ruffles your hair. You swat him away "What?"
"Little sister" he mutters.
You give him a tight hug hoping your appreciation comes through without words. Ruffling his hair on release.

"Oh, guess what, i have a date for your party on the weekend". You grin
"I'm guessing C doesn't know its not him?"
You shake your head laughing.
"Astrid"
His jaw drops, lost for words for once in his life. You laugh at him walking out to go get ready for class "see you later".
