I'm Not Broken

You breathe in the fresh air after being cooped up for hours.
After being outside for a little bit you both go up to the senior common room to avoid the rush of students once the bell goes.

Cumulus leaves for a minute telling you she'll be right back.
You settle yourself on the couch staring out the window, you don't even hear the bell.

"Sorellina?"
"Mmm?"
"Wake up!"
You open your eyes, Terzo is inches from your face.
"Jesus!!" You shout startled.
He snorts "Never been called that before".
"You scared me!" You grumble as he moves away laughing.
"And you're not supposed to be sleeping yet" Cumulus has her hands on her hips watching you.
"I wasnt sleeping... I was seeing how long I could hold my eyelids closed".
She scoffs at you. You hear some others laugh aswell.
Terzo sits down next to you "how are you?" Watching you with concern.
"I'm not broken, I'm fine" you sigh rolling your eyes.
"If you're tired I need to take you back to Umbra!" Cumulus warns you.
You glare at her.

You look around at everyone staring at you "guys I'm fine, seriously" you get up from the couch "oh" you sway feeling dizzy again, Copia barges through his friends to get to you just as Terzo reaches out to help you balance.
"Gotcha" Copia mumbles "let's go".
You groan.

"I'm going to kill Emily" you hear Terzo mumble as Copia walks you out.

"Maybe I'm a little bit broken" you mumble. "No you're not".
Copia has one arm around you, while you've paused to stop the spinning in your head. He suddenly scoops you up under your knees.
"Holy shit, put me down!" You grab onto him.
"No"
"Copia! You put me down, now!"
He laughs at you using his full name.
"You'll fall down these stairs, so, no". He pecks your cheek quickly.

Thankfully just about everyone is in the cafeteria now so no one sees you being carried like a child to the medical bay.

He puts you down gently before opening the door. "Hi Sister" Copia says to the top of Sister Umbras head whos clearly engrossed in paperwork she was reading.
"What? Oh!" She sees you "Ooh dear, what's happened?"
"She will deny it but she's sleepy and dizzy, I had to carry her here". Copia smiles at you.
"Of course you did" she chuckles.
Copia follows Sister Umbra holding onto you.
"Up you pop dear" she taps the bed, you slide up groaning. You stop moving feeling all the colour drain from your face. A sick overwhelming feeling spirals through you.
"Uh oh" Sister Umbra mumbles running off.
"What?" Copia looks back at her, she comes running back with a bag and covers your mouth just in time.

You look up tears streaming down your face. "You are staying here tonight my dear" Sister Umbra says softly, handing you some tissues.

She leaves to put the bag in the bin. Copia lifts you up onto the bed, your head rests on his chest for a minute, he brushes your hair away from your face. He pops the pillow up so you can lean on it, you move your legs onto the bed he covers you up with the blanket.

"Don't look at me like that" you mumble.
"Like what? Im just admiring the view" he smiles at you.
You scoff, but grab your head and groan in pain.
Sister Umbra comes over with some medicine "this should stop the nausea and headache".

You take it greatfully. And go back to cradling your head in your hands.

"Copia dear, i know you want nothing more then to stay here with her but she really needs rest and you need to go eat." Sister Umbra pats his shoulder gently. He nods.
"I'll be back in the morning, ok?"
"Mhm"
He leans over peeling a couple fingers off your head so he can kiss your forehead.
He stands back up but you reach out and cling to his shirt. He chuckles softly leaning back over and wrapping  his arms around you gently. "I promise tesoro" he whispers in your ear so Sister Umbra couldn't hear him.
You let go of him.

Sister Umbra makes you tea and has had some assorted fruits brought up for you to try and eat. She mostly makes you drink a lot of water.

You find it hard to settle and sleep when eveything smells of bleach and disinfectant. Resting on the side of your head hurts so you toss from your good side to your back for a while.

Sleep finally overtakes you.
Nightmares about a pregnant woman with dark hair, horns and black wings course through your mind startling you awake, forgetting as soon as you open your eyes but leaving you in a panic.

"Hey, hey, shh its ok" a hand reaches out from the disembodied voice whispering, wiping your tears.
You hadnt realized you were sobbing.
Your eyes taking longer to adjust than usual.
"C?"
"I'm here"
"What? Why?"
"Couldn't sleep so I snuck in"
"Youre going to get us in trouble" you blink a few more times and he come into focus sitting in the chair next to you.
He's wearing a plain tight t shirt and sweatpants, you've seen him out of uniform before but not like this, you stare at him for a moment.

"No im not, Umbra caught me" he chuckles watching you.
"Said I could stay if I kept my butt in this chair and not get in there with you, which I've been struggling with" he pauses "you look nice and cozy" he grins making you laugh.

He slides the chair facing the bed so he can rest his arm on the bed lacing his fingers with yours and resting his head on his arm.
"What was the nightmare about?"
"No idea" you yawn.
"Bene" he mumbles closing his eyes.
You fall into an easier sleep.

The morning sunlight shining through Sister Imperators window is soft but doesn't feel inviting. Despite sitting as straight and proper as she can project herself, Emily knows this isn't going to go in her favour just by the look on Imperators face.

"Let's get straight to it shall we, Emily? I need to know what happened yesterday when y/n recived the injury to her head".

"I'm not sure Sister, I wasn't there, i was with my friends, you spoke to them" she smiles as sweetly as she can.

She sighs. "Ive had-" she looks at her paper counting "1, 2, 3, 4....ah 5, 5 students approach me saying they saw you push y/n"

"They're lying!" Emily folds her arms infront of her. "Obviously her friends have asked them to say that!".

"Emily, y/n is still in the hospital bay, shes had a concussion. This is serious." Her stern look pierces Emily.

"My family donates a lot to this church" she stares back at Sister Imperator.

"That may be so child, but they are not the only ones. You would do well to read up on on what our beliefs encourage. Shoving someone into a fountain, is not one of them".

"It wasn't me!" Emily stands her ground almost shouting.

Sister Imperaror stands up at this point, anger bubbling to the surface.
"Do not take me for some fatuous, simple minded, imbecile. I gave you the benefit of the doubt because you have been here longer and before now have shown great respect for school rules and values. This behaviour is not only not acceptable, it was a disgusting display of everything we do not represent. Had she hit her head harder or in a slightly different spot she'd have ended up with brain damage." Imperator pauses for a moment.
"You will be serving detention once a week for two months. You are dismissed."

"But..."

"You are lucky you are not being suspended. You are dismissed, child"

Emily leaves with huff.
Sister Imperator shuffles her paper work bringing a letter forward, reading it for the 100th time,
warning her that if Emily was suspended over this incident that the church would lose a significant amount of funding that they very much need.
Not wanting to bother Nihil with the threat of losing money, she scrunches the letter up throwing it in the trash.

She's greatful y/n doesn't have parents or shed be thrown out of her job for sure.
She sighs rubbing her temples. What is wrong with these kids?!
