"I mean might have an idea," Alaska grinned.

"What?" we all asked eagerly.

She giggled mischievously and smirked.

Oh man, this can't be good.

"We can sneak into the pool," she said excitedly. "Yeah, it'll be fun. We'll stick it to the man."

We all looked at each other, considering the idea. We nodded uncertainly.

"Yeah, let's do it," Sadies enthused.

We erupted in 'Yeahs' and a 'Yeah yeah.' Then, we all ran home to get our swimsuits on and met up at the sandlot again.

"You guys ready?" Alaska asked. She was so excited we could practically feel her adrenaline radiating off her.

"Definitely," Ham answered. "I'd do anything to stop baking out here."

We laughed then hurried off to the pool. The 12 of us walked to the back of the pool lot and looked at the fence separating us from summer's heaven.

"Okay, how do we get in?" Bertram asked smiling eagerly.

Alaska put her hand up for him to stop. "First you take off your coverup clothes and leave them here."

We stripped down to our swimsuits and looked at her for the next instruction. "Then," she continued, "you hop the fence."

She climbed it and jumped over easily. She looked at us and smiles. "Easy, see?"

I looked over to my brother only to find him perving over her, along with the others except Timmy and Benny. I nudged Yeah-Yeah and brought him back down to Earth.

"Huh?" he said confused.

"Watch me brother," I told him, climbing the fence and hopping over.

I stood next to Alaska and smiled at them smugly. Sadies did the same as me and Laska. We looked at the boys. They were all hesitant - especially Smalls.

"Guys, I-I don't know about this," Scotty stuttered.

I put my hands on my hips. "Just hurry up Smalls, if you don't they'll notice us!"

"What about Ham?" Bertram asked, trying to say it as inoffensive as possible.

"Yeah, what about Ham?" Timmy asked.

"Yeah, what about Ham?" Tommy echoed.

"He's fine, he can do it!" Alaska retorted frustratedly. "Now c'mon and stop being a bunch of sissies!"

"Okay geeze, we're coming," Kenny mumbled, successfully sneaking in. Then Benny, Bertram, Yeah-Yeah, Squints, Timmy, Tommy, and Ham got in. That left Smalls.

Poor stupid, innocent little Smalls, Alaska would say.

"Just get it over with Scott!" Sadies told him.

He said, "But I-I just ca-can't."

"Come on Smalls! Get a grip man!" Benny tried to persuade.

Numerous tries later, we finally got him over. All the nine boys ran and jumped into the refreshing water, but Sadies, Alaska, and I stayed behind a bit. We were just having a normal conversation when a group of three nasty girls came up to us.

"Hey, grease, your name's Alaska, right?" the average height blonde asked in an overly-friendly voice.

"Yeah, why?" Alaska replied confidently. Oh no.

The tall brunette said, "Do you like your name? I mean it's really ugly, but do you like it?"

"Love it," Laska told her and quit slouching to seem taller, which didn't work because she's short - really short.

Then the short redhead taunted, "Yeah well, figures. An ugly name for and ugly person."

Oh man. Sadies and I looked at each other wide-eyed. These girls had no idea what they were getting themselves into.

"Alaska," Sadies mumbled, but Alaska completely ignored her.

"Yeah? Well guess what? Nobody knows your names because nobody knows what you are," Laska retorted. The girls gawked and walked away offended.

"That was nice!" I complimented on her comeback, giving her a high-five.

"Thanks," she flipped her hair.

Sadies laughed and said, "Why don't we get in the pool guys, it is what we came here for."

"Okay," I agreed. "Race you!" I ran and jumped into the cool, refreshing water.

"Hey that's no fair!" Sadies called after me and jumped in.

Alaska's POV

I watched Chrissy and Sadies jump into the pool, but I didn't really feel like swimming anymore. What those girls said was really getting to me. I mean, yeah I already knew I was ugly, but it still bugs, you dig? And I know I was acting all cocky and confident, but they were real intimidating. Plus it didn't help that they were all giants compared to me, even the short one and -

"Alaska!" a familiar voice interrupted.

I whipped around and saw Andrew with a whole bunch of boys - his friend?

"Oh hey Andrew!" I greeted smiling and gave him a hug. "What are you doing here?"

"I came swimming with my friends," he answered. "You?"

"I snuck in with my friends," I admitted and laughed.

He laughed along and asked, "Who are your friends?"

"Benjamin, Scotty, Michael, Hamilton, Kenny, Bertram, Timmy, Tommy, Alan, Christian, and Mercedes," I told him and his friends' expressions turned sour.

"The sandlotters?" Andrew asked a bit brusquely.

I nodded.

"Why are you hanging out with those rejects?" he scowled.

I taken aback by his question. "What?"

"They're losers!" one of his friends put in.

"Why don't you shut your trap peewee!" I snapped at him.

He snickered. "Look who's talking."

I felt my blood boil. I hate it when people underestimate me because of my size. "Listen here, Bub," I told him real serious and grabbed the collar of his shirt. "I may be small, but I will mess you up real good."

He pretended to be scared. "Oh man Andrew, this girl is scaring the tar outta me!" he mocked in fake fear.

I was about to lose it.

"C'mon Micah, cut it out," Phillips defended and pushed 'Micah' away from me.

"Aweee, is she your little girlfriend?" Micah continued.

I felt my eyes water out of anger, but quickly blinked them away. "Why don't you just let me be?" I said, my voice firm and powerful. I was surprised no one had noticed us arguing, or maybe it didn't seem unusual.

"C'mon Micah. I don't know what your doing, but this definitely isn't the Micah Bruce I know," Andrew told him and hooked his arm around me.

Micah wasn't done yet though. "Fine, go elope with your midget girlfriend."

That was it. I had enough. I swing at him and felt the impact of my fist and his jaw. I heard a whistle blow and my eyes widened.

Oh shit...
