Today we all got together to play ball again and we played all day, barely stopping at all. We were covered in mosquito bites by the time the sun had set completely and the inside of our gloves were wet with the perspiration of the day.

Everyone's hair was stuck to their foreheads and their shirts were stuck to their torsos. We all sat in the dugout for a bit and enjoyed the breeze against our faces. Tomorrow was The Fourth of July and we couldn't help but be excited.

I was sitting next to Chrissy and I slung my arm around her. Tonight everyone was going to her's and Yeah-Yeah's house to sleepover and watch Psycho. We all heard it was supposed to be real scary so we decided to watch it.

After a while, everyone headed home to wash up and gather our stuff. Tommy and I walked to the McClennan's, and of course, our mom questioned us about everything and we had to lie about the movie. Man, if she ever found out I had a girlfriend, she's kill me. Literally kill me.

Tommy knocked on the door and Xavien answered it. Xavien looked a lot like Yeah-Yeah, just older. And way more intimidating. Sure Yeah-Yeah had grown a few inches since the summer of '62, but his brother seemed like a giant, standing at 6'4". (I know because Chrissy told me.)

"Hey Timmons, Timmons #2," he greeted us and let us in.

Tommy and I were the first ones here and Yeah-Yeah was sitting on the couch watching tv. I figured Chrissy was in the kitchen, because she yelled, "Yeah-Yeah, get off your lazy butt and help me!" and her voice came in the direction of the kitchen. He simply groaned in reply and slumped in the couch.

I put my stuff down on the floor and went to see Chrissy. She was making popcorn and putting juice boxes on the table.

"Hi Blondie," I smiled and hugged her from behind.

"Chubby," she greeted and although she turned her head away so I couldn't see her face, I could hear the smile in voice.

We talked for a few minutes before everybody arrived and we took the popcorn out to the living room. Chrissy and I sat on the love seat; Bertram, Ham, Kenny, and Tommy sat on the couch; and Squints, Smalls, Yeah-Yeah, Benny, Tina, and Alaska all sat on the floor.

It wasn't really scary to me because horror films are always just really predictable, but the others found it terrifying. At this really scary part, Chrissy buried her face in my chest and held on to my shirt for dear life. It was really adorable and I couldn't help but blush. But, Benny ruined the moment and let out a girlish screech and sent us all into a fit of laughter. He glanced at Tina and smiled embarrassedly. I'm not the dork this time.

By the time Psycho was over, Alaska was crying, Tina a bit shaken up, Chrissy basically attached to my shirt, and us boys trying not to seem as terrified as we actually were. I honestly almost crapped my pants. "Ok-kay, what now?" I asked, trying not to stutter.

Everybody shrugged and tried to seem cool, but the atmosphere was obviously horrified.

"Timmy?" Chrissy whispered.

"Yeah?" I whispered back.

"I love you," she smiled up at me coyly.

"I love you too," I pecked her lips and held her hand, intertwining our fingers.

Yeah-Yeah's POV

I looked over at my sister and Timmy and I can't say I was happy about them snuggling and him kissing her, but I couldn't help but feel a little bit jealous that Timmy had a girlfriend and I didn't. I peeked at Alaska out of the corner of my eye and she was flirting with Squints. I blushed angrily and turned to talk to Benny, but he was too busy talking to Tina. Kenny, Bertram, Ham, and Tommy were all talking, so that left me to talk to Smalls.

"I feel like a tag-along," I told him and forced a chuckle.

"Me too," he admitted. "Why's everyone so interested in girls? I mean, me and you are too, but we don't ditch our friends for 'em."

"Yeah yeah," I agreed. "I guess it's cause we're basically all 14 and girls are hot now."

"Yeah," he scratched the back of his neck, then whispered, "But Laska's really flat-chested, huh?"

My eyes widened. "What do you mean? She's perfect!" I whispered back.

"Yeah, but puberty hadn't really hit her appearance yet," he told me quietly.

"Yeah yeah, well it hasn't exactly helped you any either Smalls. Screw you," I spat angrily at him.

I sat there a bit just thinking. I was brought back to Earth when I heard Squints' voice ask, "Alaska, would you go on a date with me?"

I looked over at them bewildered, but quickly hung my head and looked down.

"Uh Squints, I like you and everything, but I don't think I'm ready for a relationship right now," she told him softly. "And I get that we have feelings for each other, but I don't think we'd work."

Immediately my head shot up with hope. She told him no? I could tell Squints felt bad, but I couldn't stop my heart from beating so fast and my chest from being all tingly. I didn't really pay attention to what else they were saying, but I finally had a chance with Alaska Adiego!

"Laska," I called her over.

Alaska's POV

Yeah-Yeah called me over and I sat next to him. I was feeling real bad about saying no to Squints, but honestly I knew it wouldn't last.

We talked for a while and I didn't realize I was smiling nonstop until he winked at me. I blushed and looked away to grin one last time. But I don't like him that way. I don't. I don't. I don't.

"So," I said. "I heard Sarah Mae had a thing for you."

He shrugged. "It's not like anything's gonna happen. She's not my type," he smiled.

I laughed. "You're crazy Yeah-Yeah, out of your mind. She's one of the prettiest girls in our neighborhood."

"Yeah yeah, but I don't like her," he insisted truthfully.

Since we were sitting on the floor, I sat criss-cross-applesauce and placed my hand in the floor. He placed his hand right next to mine nonchalantly. My heart was racing and I blushed. What the hell? I don't like him.

"I can't wait 'till school," I sighed. "I miss having more than one thing to do."

"I can wait," he told me. "I'd wait forever if I could."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "What do you mean?"

"I don't wanna go to school," he sighed. "I hate that place, it's so far away."

What does he mean? It's only a ten minute bus ride. "You gonna get a girlfriend?" I asked him, changing the subject.

"I hope so," he said chuckling.
