"I really like you too," Squints smiled at me.
I returned the grin, just coyly. His hand was set on the table and I gathered all my guts and set mine on his.
I looked at his face and he was bright red and I just knew mine was too.
It was silent, but not awkward. It was the comfy type of quiet. We stayed like that for a few more seconds and I said, "C'mon, lets go skate."

Yeah-Yeah's POV
I looked over to a couple of tables away from where I was sitting and I saw Squints and Alaska. They were sitting together and smiling and blushing and she put her hand on his. Then they got up and roller skated into the rink, as they were holding hands. I felt my ears turn red and I felt mad. I wanted to go over there and punch Squints for taking Alaska, but he's my best friend.
I shook my head despondently and crossed my arms on the table and hid my face in them. About a minute later I felt a tap on my shoulder and I looked up. It was Sarah Mae Lister.
"Hi Alan," she greeted cheerfully.
"Hi Sarah Mae," I said unenthusiasticly, not wanting to talk to her. Yeah, she was one of the prettiest girls in my grade, but that didn't matter because she wasn't Alaska.
"Are you okay? You seem a little down," she sat down next to me.
"Yeah yeah, I'm great," I answered, lying like a dog.
"Gum?" she asked, holding out a piece of Double Bubble.
"Thanks," I took the gum and popped it in my mouth. It was good, but I prefer Bazooka. "Why are you talking to me? You're so popular and I'm just me."
"What do you mean?" she asked. "Its alright if we're not in the same social group. I'm still allowed to like you, right?"
I looked at her eyes. They were warm and brown, the opposite of Alaska's. I looked at her short, blonde, curly hair and the way the ringlets bounced at the slightest movement.
She furrowed her eyebrows. "Am I not allowed to like you?" she laughed.
"Yeah yeah, you're allowed to like me, but I just don't feel like looking for a girlfriend at the moment. I'm sorry Sarah Mae," I told her as gently as I could.
She shook her head in disbelief, but forced a smile. "Well, let me know when you want to meet up," she kissed my cheek and left.
When I was sure she left, I wiped the cheek she pecked. It was sticky from her lipgloss, there was no way I could just wipe it off. I got up and skated into the rink.

Chrissy's POV
I was skating with Timmy and I looked over to my brother. He was talking to Sarah Mae Lister and she kissed him on the cheek. Sure I hated her, but I was proud of Yeah-Yeah.
I nudged Timmy. "Yeah-Yeah got some sugar from Sarah Mae," I smirked.
He laughed and tried to kiss me, but I leaned away and he fell.
"Hey!" he called after me, but I skated away laughing.
I saw my brother come into the rink and approached him rapidly. "Yeah-Yeah! Way to go baby brother!" I yelled, knowing that he hated when I called him that.
"Yeah yeah," he beamed, but I knew he didn't like her one bit. "I've got one of the prettiest girls in our grade following me around."
I smiled at him. "C'mon, lets go find Timmy and hope he didn't die."
I hooked my arm around him and skated to Timmons.
"Gee thanks for leaving me here," Timmy said sarcastically.
I grinned childishly. "Any time Tim."
"I told you not to call me that," he whined adorably. I looked at my brother and shooed him away. Surprisingly, he actually obeyed me.
"Fine Timothy," I laughed evilly.
"Fine Christian," he shot back.
I raised my eyebrows at him and he chuckled nervously. "Hehe sorry," he apologized.
"It's fine," I laugh again and peck his lips. "We should do something else, this is boring."
"Yeah, but what?" Timmy asked.
I shrugged. "I dunno. I wish we could play ball, but we have no ball and no money for a ball."
"We can look for my 'cousin.' My mom told me her old friend was moving here with her daughter who's our age, but I forgot her name," he suggested.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "How could we find her if you have no idea what she looks like or what her name is?"
He blushed embarrassedly and scratched the back of his neck. "Oh yeah."
I giggled and sighed. "Timmy, you may be school smart, but I don't think you have any common sense."
He chuckled. "Yeah, but you love me anyway."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night," I joked and held his hand.

Sadies' POV
I watched Benny skate around the rink as I held onto the wall. I was wishing I knew how to roller skate, but I would never admit I had no dang clue how. That would just be embarrassing.
I decided to take a leap of faith and let go of the wall, attempting to skate. If you could picture Bambi when he took his first steps, you could basically picture how I looked. I really wanted to spend time with Benny because he seemed so distant lately. It was really bugging me and I also need to talk to him about something really important.
The Jet skated to me and said, "Sadies, do you need help skating?"
I nodded sheepishly and tried to mask my embarrassment with a smile. He took hold of my hand, but this time I didn't feel any emotion when we touched. And that hurt.
He went on and on about baseball and some plays he wanted to practice with the boys and the girls. I just kinda zoned out because I didn't understand anything he was referring to and I thought about how much I missed draft horsing, and more importantly my horse. He just didn't fascinate me like he once did.
"Sadies, you okay?" his voiced interrupted my thoughts.
"Huh? Oh yeah," I responded. "Listen Benny, I think we should talk about something serious."
