Me, Robin, Dustin, Steve and Erica had walked what felt like five hundred miles.
Dustin started to talk," I mean, you have to admit, as a feat of engineering alone, this is impressive."
"What are you talking about? It's a total fire hazard. There's no stairs, there's no exit. There's just an elevator that drops you halfway to hell." Steve said.
"They are Commies. You don't pay people, they cut corners." Erica said.
"To be fair to our Russian comrades, I don't think this tunnel was designed for walking." Robin said.
"If you think about it, they developed the perfect system for transporting cargo." I said.
"It all comes into the mall like any old delivery." Dustin added.
"And then they load it up into those trucks and nobodies the wiser." Robin said.
"You think they built this whole mall so they could transport that green poison?" Steve asked
"I very seriously doubt it's something as boring as poison." Dustin said. "It's gotta be much more valuable like promethium or something."
"What the hell is promethium?" Steve asked.
"It's what Victor Stone's dad used to make Cyborg's bionic and cybernetic components." Robin said.
"You are all so nerdy, it makes me physically sick."
"No,no,no. No, don't lump me in with them. I'm not a nerd, all right?" Steve said.
"Why so sensitive, Steven?" I asked. "Afraid of losing cool points to a ten-year-old child?"
"No, I'm just saying I don't know Jack shit about Prometheus." Steve said.
"Promethium." Dustin corrected.
"Prometheus is a Greek mythological figure, but whatever." I said. "All we are saying is, it's probably being used to make something or power something."
"Like a nuclear weapon?" Dustin suggested.
"Totally." Robin said.
"Walking towards what y'all think is a nuclear weapon. That's great." Steve said.
"But if they're building something," robin said. "Why here? I mean, why in Hawkins? Seriously. Of all places."
Dustin and I looked at each other as Robin kept talking. Steve, Dustin and I all stopped. "You think the Russians know?" I asked Steve.
"About--"
"They could." Dustin said.
"So it's connected?" Steve said.
"Maybe." I said.
"But how?" Steve asked
"I don't know, but it's..."
"Possible." We all said.
"I'm sorry, is there something you'd like to share with the class?" Robin asked as her and Erica turned around.
We all looked at each other again, and then there was a static hissing and a man speaking on the radio of Dustin's walkie.
We ran towards Erica and she took out the walkie. "A trip to china sounds nice." I said in Russian. "If you tread lightly."
"It's the code."
"Whatever that broadcast is coming from—"
"It's close. And if there's one thing we know about that signal..." I said.
"It can reach the surface." Dustin said.
"Let's go."
We walked a little while longer, we hid when we saw a few people.
"Okay, clear. Let's go."
"That was close." Robin said.
"Too close." Dustin added.
"Relax." Steve said. "Alright? Relax. Nobody saw..." he paused as we all stared, we ran and hid.
"I saw it. First floor, north west."
"Saw what?"
The comms room." Erica said
"You saw the comms room?" Steve questioned.
"Correct."
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Positive. It was open for a second, the door. There was a bunch of lights and machines and shit in there."
"That could be a hundred different things." Dustin said.
"I'll take those odds." I said. We all looked and then hid as Steve said,"we are gonna move fast. We're gonna stay low. Okay?"
"Okay." We all agreed. We bent down and walked, hiding and then walking again. And then hiding again. A door opened and a person in a white coat walked out. We walked inside and shut the door. We walked inside and there was someone in there.
"We come in peace!" I said in Russian. "Tread lightly. Tread lightly!"
"Who are you?" The man asked
"silver cat." Robin said in Russian.
"I don't understand." The man said in the language.
"China?" Robin asked. He then went to pull out his weapon, Steve yelled and attacked him. They threw each other around and threw punches. Steve grabbed something and knocked the guard out.
Dustin and I gasped,"dude!"
"You did it!" Dustin said
"you won your first fight!" I said.
"Jeez." Steve said. I ran towards the man and took the keycard off of him.
"What are you doing?" Erica asked.
"Getting our ticket out of here." I said.
"You want to walk all the way back?" She questioned.
"Well, we can hang out for a little bit relax, have a picnic maybe," Dustin said.
"Have a picnic? We came here for the radio." Erica said. I noticed something and walked away, I went up the stairs. It was glowing blue. Robin followed me. There was more men inside. We looked at each other and we ran down the stairs.
"Guys." They all looked at us.
"There's something up there." I said. We went back up and I opened the door and we went inside. We all stared at whatever it was. It was like a rocket trying to power a gate to the upside down.
"Holy shit."
"It's the gate."
We ran out as Robin questioned us.
"So you've seen this before?"
"Not exactly."
"All you need to know is that this is bad." Dustin said.
" Really super bad." I said. "Like end-of-the- human- race-as-we-know-it bad."
"And you know about this how?"
"Uh, Steve. Where's your Russian friend?" Erica asked.
