It was getting darker, I was sitting outside. Tons of people had left already. I turned around. The basketball players were starting to finally leave. Someone sat next to me, by their strong smell I knew who.
"Hey."
"Hi." I said back. "I know you would probably rather Max be here, waiting for you, rather than her annoying bitchy sister." I joked.
"What's wrong, Maddie?"
"Nothing."
He stared at me,"we have been best friends since we were like what 6? 7? You can tell me anything."
"Ever feel like any second, your whole life is just going to end?" I asked. "Or am I going crazy?"
"I think everyone is going crazy, Maddie."
I looked at him,"How have you been?"
He glanced away then back at me,"I feel alone. Mike and Dustin hate me. Max wants nothing to do with me. Will is gone. And I don't fit in with the boys on the team."
"They don't hate you. Especially Max. She just deals with her emotions differently."
"I mean I know your brother died, but Max hated him. So like..."
"Max and I have different responses to traumatic things. I make myself not feel anything but..Max on the other hand. . .She feels too much and pretends she doesn't."
"How do I help her?" He asked.
"Give her time. Once she starts to let you in again and she will, help her, comfort her. She misses you, deep down. She is just to scared to get hurt again. She doesn't want you to die like..." I stopped talking, he knew what I was going to say. "I'm here for you if you need to talk." I told him.
"Same here." He said. "How's the therapy?"
"Not helping."
"Heard from your dad?" He asked.
I shook my head no,"wouldn't be surprised if he died from like alcohol poisoning or an overdose."
We both stared at each other. "I miss talking like this." He said. "I miss the group. Our group."
"I think we all miss each other, we are just to scared to do anything about it. None of us like change and everything has changed."
We both stared in front of us, it was getting colder. The weather man or whatever is such a liar.
"Did they lock up the school? I forgot my jacket inside."
"I don't think so. Let's go check." He said.
Lucas Pov: Maddie then stopped randomly. She started to walk into a classroom.
"Maddie?" I said. I followed her, I stopped at the door.
