Daryl was never someone who openly admitted his feelings or knew how to express how he truly felt because the majority of the time, he didn't know. When he first met Anastasia, he was immediately attracted to the woman, how could he not be? She's beautiful and his attraction to her increased tenfold when her personality started to shine through. She's feisty and short-tempered but also extremely caring, protective and overall, a very interesting person.

Finding out she is a witch blew his mind and in any other circumstance, he most likely wouldn't have believed her but when he entered her RV and saw how large it was compared to the outside, he knew there was no reasonable explanation for it. Despite being closed about his past and emotions, he felt rather proud and intrigued when Ana opened up about her past and her magic, in his eyes she became even more interesting and awe-inspiring. He had a shit life before the apocalypse occurred but it was nothing compared to what Ana had to deal with, going through wars and being targeted by a madman would make anyone's life hectic and stressful.

Anastasia's someone he never thought would give him the time of day, there wasn't anything special about him and in all honesty, the woman deserves someone much better than him. Despite all of that, he couldn't help but adore her in every way, and that's why it hurt so much when she started ignoring him. They had grown close in such a short amount of time, it was hard not to when she was constantly flirting and teasing him every chance she got. Never in his life had a woman made him so flustered and turned on before and so when she stopped, it felt as though something was missing from his day-to-day life.

Throughout the confrontation by the barn, he couldn't take his eyes off her and he couldn't give a shit who saw because he genuinely thought she was the most beautiful person he had ever laid eyes on. He knew that when everyone disappeared and left the two alone, it would be his only chance to find out what went wrong between them.

"I think we need to talk," He said from behind her. He noticed her body tense up slightly and his heart clenched at the thought he might have made her so uncomfortable that being alone with him put her on edge like that.

"Yeah, you're probably right" She sighed and slowly turned towards him. Blue met emerald green and they both found themselves lost in each other's eyes, feeling as though nothing else around them mattered.

"What did I do, Ana?" He asked quietly, taking a cautious step towards her. He sighed in relief when she didn't move back and so, he approached her slowly as she watched his every move. He could tell she was contemplating her next words, so, he stayed silent and waited patiently.

"Do you know what's interesting, Daryl? I've lived a thousand years and you'd think I'd be used to crazy emotions and intense feelings and yet, a painful heart seems to surprise me." Daryl stood in front of her with a confused frown, not quite understanding where the conversation was leading.

"I still have some emotional scars from my first life, believe it or not. Every little thing I did was watched and most of the time, I never got a single praise or thank you. As the years went on and I restarted a new life somewhere else, it got easier and it didn't bother me as much anymore. Until now" An ache struck his heart as he noticed the tears in the woman's green eyes, and as if it was instinct, he took a step forward to comfort her and yet, she raised her hand, stopping me from moving any closer. He immediately began chewing on his thumbnail, a habit that started when he was younger.

"Did you know that was the first deer I ever caught? It was usually small shit like rabbits and squirrels-" Ana saw the realisation appear in the hunter's eyes, it was as though everything began to make sense for him. He looked at the woman in front of him and was engulfed in guilt, it made him feel worse when she smiled at him, one so little and full of sadness.
