I texted Miya
I went home as soon as I could but Mom and Clara said I was too late and Miya was gone.
I took a cab to the train station but I was too late again...
Miya was already seated inside the train for the first time she wore her hair up in a bun. She looked so beautiful and happy as she waved me goodbye.
I went home feeling only the need to cry.
I wanted to cry but not because she left but instead because I wasted so much time with Ella while I could have been with her.
I took a long, cold shower and wore some fresh pajamas. But that's when I noticed something.
There was a book on the bed. I had never seen it before.
On the cover I saw her name: Miya McAdams.
I remembered all the times I asked to read her stories and now I had an entire book. I was so happy I felt joy rush over me.
Inside was a note. It read:
Dear Max
I'm deeply sorry I had to move but my Dad got worse and I just couldn't stay.
Despite that I would like to thank you for everything. A few months ago I had no friends and spoke to no one. I barely smiled and kept my face on my screen but thanks to you I made friends. I learned to smile and be happy despite the tragedies at home you I was able to laugh and do all sorts of fun things.
I really liked you and I hope we'll meet again, in this life or the next.
With love
MiyaPS: I'm only a call away.
