And once more I set off to a kingdom that was thousands of miles away. This time, I was the only one who accompanied the fire empress on such a path. I felt highly honored to be privately set on another royal mission, but I still felt off.
For the days and weeks we've been flying and traveling together, I've learned some pretty interesting stuff about the empress. Her hobbies were the usual stuff that I'd expect from royalty, like training and earning lots of riches.
Although, she had lots of other interests that I could not believe. She had a strong passion for animals, and made peace with almost every beast we came across on our way. Some she even wanted to make her pet.
Any animals that were wilding out, she kept them in check with a mere glance. Sure we ate some mutton that was farmed by local humans past Asia, but we mostly ate berries and dragon fruits. They were still delicious though.
And like any fire dragonblood known to dragon kind, she knew how to cook. The fact that she managed to cook such pristine looking dishes without a bunch of ingredients was astonishing to me. Being queen must added perks for her.
Something was different though. In my conscience, it was quiet. Not a sound ringer into my head, nor the back of it. Chalk hadn't said a single word since after I killed Maoi. A response from Maoi was still a mystery.
I grew a little concerned about what might be happening in there, but I still felt a surmountable level of guilt for killing Maoi. I knew he didn't deserve it, but I still ended up killing him. And for what, power? Rage?? I wasn't sure.
But when I came to Lis.. she told me to close my heart to it. That we were at war. That there was no time to feel for my adversaries. Whether they lived a sad life or not. So any tears I had, I wiped away.
Currently, we had flown miles upon miles upon miles on our way to the north. I even had some time to regain my energy along the way. More the enough to be frank. But instead of feeling colder, the temperature in the air grew hotter.
My skin began to sweat a little as my eyes started to catch something in the sky. It was mega tall, icy structure that had a bulging light. But through an upcoming barrier of igneous rock, I saw something that I didn't really expect to see.
"Woah... that looks.. hot!!" I commented. "Wait, I thought we weren't heading for your kingdom?" I looked at her confused. "We're not. Look behind the city." Lis pointed at a space that glowed a light blue. It was a cave. A cave blanketed in permafrost.
"Woah, that is smart. But why leave it like that? Aren't you afraid of getting attacked?" I questioned. "No. They know better than to attack us. That's why they made a peace treaty with us not too long ago." Lis looked at the icy structure in the sky.
"Oh yeah, what is that?" I asked as we made our way over the hot city tours. "That's my castle. Me and the Ice Emperor made it together. He did it to get in my pants, but he couldn't even last ten seconds." Lis scoffed.
"Wow. He probably doesn't last that long in bed huh?" I joked. "Nah, I just have really good technique." Lis winked at me. I blinked at her, and just pretended that I didn't see what I had seen.
I took one last look at the peculiar looking castle before we made our way into the ice cold cave. I couldn't help but have my mind on the fire kingdom most of the way. It was so astonishing. Just like the water kingdom.
It made me want to see the ice kingdom. Luckily, I didn't have to make a wish for that to happen. By the time we got out, it felt like we stepped into a whole new world.
I no longer felt like I was going to melt. The sweat that constantly dripped and slid down skin had ceased away. And the air felt more healthy to my lungs, being thankful that I wouldn't have to breathe anymore smoke.
Out of all the kingdoms I had seen, that was the best one I had ever laid my eyes upon. I felt so at home there. I felt like a dragonling in a mutton farm. I was so happy to be even be there. I was... at peace.
"Welcome to the heart of the north, right beside the North Pole itself." Lis presented. "This place... it's-a-amazing!" I stuttered on my own words, thinking about what house I should buy there.
"Yeah yeah I know. Still, we got business to do here. Don't forget." Lis and I walked across the bridge. I still couldn't take my eyes off of the beautiful white landscape that was before me. I knew it was the north so it made sense, but still.
What ice dragonblood wouldn't wanna live here? It was basically perfect! I looked down some more along the way, and the ice cold residents living their everyday lives in. All of the kids that ran around were of dragon kind.
They either played sports, or puzzle games with ice and snow. The adults that resided there were mixed between ice dragons, and heavily coated humans. This was a first for me to see. Humans in an elemental kingdom... how peculiar.
I turned my attention to Lis, thinking of something to put out there. "Aren't you cold right now?" I asked. "No. I've mastered the art of controlling my thermal energy. So my body heat is not a concern." Lis answered effortlessly.
In no time, we made our way to the entrance of the ice castle at the center. I attempted to open the doors, but two guards had already opened it from the inside. After that, they stood aside someone that I never thought I'd see again.
"Hello son. We've been expecting you." He spoke to me casually, twirling his Snow White crown in his hands. "......Dad...?" I was too stunned to even breath properly.
