From cameras to your heart

Chapter 16

It was 9:00 pm at night and inaya was setting up the dinner table. The whole day they spent while talking and having fun.

She told dadi and Sumitra aunty about the annual function at the orphanage the day after and both of them agreed to join her.

She cooked rajma-chawal, sahi paneer and raita with chapatis. They all sat down while inaya served them the food. The dinner went well, after finishing while she was washing up and cleaning the table her mother in law's phone rang.

She took the dishes inside the kitchen just when she heard aditya's voice from the other side of the phone. From hearing aunty's words she could make out that he was on face time with her.

Completing her work she quietly came back to the living room and sat down beside dadi. His mother was on the other side of the couch while she talked to Aditya.

Just as she was looking here and there awkwardly she heard her call her name being called out loud.

"Inaya, beta come here, adi is on the call." Dadi tapped on her arm gesturing her to and talk to him. She instantly felt getting stuck in that awkward situation. How was she supposed to tell them that they have talked on the phone just once and that too lead to a fight.

What would she even talk about, that too in front of them? She stood up slowly walking towards where aunty sat with her eyes contracted.

Sitting down beside her , her mother in law instantly pushed the phone in front of her face and handed the phone in Inaya's hand.

Great!

Looking at the screen she saw Aditya looking right into her eyes. He was wearing a white t-shirt and his hair were ruffled around and he had grown slight stubble.

Although she wanted to be mad at him for not coming back sooner, when dadi told her that he called them to stay with her for few days, melted her anger.

"Hi" she said, her voice soft while he kept looking at her for sometime. Feeling her cheeks heating she looked down.

Aditya felt peace looking at her face after so many days. Since so many days he wanted to look at her, but everytime something came in between.

"How are you?" She heard him speaking from the other side, his voice was hoarse as if he was tired.

"I'm fine....how are you?"

What the fuck were they even doing? Inaya felt like smashing her head on the wall, it didn't feel like they both were married, it looked as if they were talking for the first time.

They talked for a few minutes before she decided to end the awkward moment. Trying to look normal she said that she had some work to do and passed the mobile to dadi. Immediately getting up from her seat she ran towards her room.

Next day, hopeful smiles orphanage 12:30 pm

Inaya, with dadi and Sumitra aunty entered the orphanage with gifts in their hands. After meeting everyone there, they all settled in their respective seats waiting for the function to start.

It started with an opening speech, followed by different types of cultural programmes performed by the children.At the end of the function the winners were announced while dadi was called on stage for the closing speech.

Inaya looked at her with a small smile on her face, when she decided to speak. Everybody in the auditorium was keenly listening to her while she spoke.

At the end of the speech she announced about the donation of rupees five crores on behalf of the Singhania family. Inaya's eyes widened and she immediately looked at her mother in law.
