I awoke the next morning feeling wonderful, and I smiled to myself as I remembered my conversation with Jang-Soo the night before.
"You're annoying".
"But you love me".
"Doesn't make you less annoying ".
"He's not perfect, but he is all I want". I thought upon myself. I quickly began getting ready for school, first taking a shower and afterwards straightening my hair. I could smell something cooking, which meant my mother was preparing breakfast. I then remembered that I had fallen asleep the night before waiting for my mom to sign the agreement, so I hurriedly dressed before rushing into the kitchen.
"Good morning to the best Eomma in the whole world". I said kissing her cheek, and instantly sat down at the table and began to fill my stomach with egg noodles.
"What have you done this time!". She looked at me with a gloomy expression on her face.
Her words made me roll my eyes, one of these days I'm going to roll my eyes so hard that I'll go blind "Yah! Can't I just try to express how happy I am to see my mother without being accused of doing something wrong?". I said offended.

She silently looked at me narrowing her eyes, then she sat down beside me. "Arasseo! Eomma is very sorry, good morning to the most beautiful daughter in the world." She said which caused a smile to crept into my face.

This was my chance, "Eomma! There's something I need you to sign!". I said as I handed her the paper while trying desperately not to sound suspicious.

"what is this!" She asked and she started reading it.
"Nothing important!". I spoke quickly, which made her look at me skeptically then went back to reading the agreement.
"do you want to join the army?". My breath caught in my throat as she asked, her face devoid of any expression.
"well..! Uhh! It is more of a military training! Think of it as a summer camp" I frearly mumbled "And before you start scolding me, note that it is my duty, as well as yours, to defend this country if necessary. I don't think I will be much help, but I will offer additional mental support or whichever people do in the military. Besides, when this is all said and done, I'll get extra credit. Now tell me if you think you'll be able to live with guilt if I don't get into my dream university. Will you be able to tell my children that you are to blame for their mother's inability to attend the college of her choice?". I said everything that came to my mind. "Damn I talk too much".
I tried to catch my breath for a few seconds as my mother looked at me, perplexed by my sudden outburst. Unexpectedly, she smiled and I felt relieved. "You're so peculiar that I at times doubt whether you're truly my daughter. Fine I'll sign, but don't come to me crying" she said while signing the papermaking me jump happily.
"I love you Eomma! I promise I will make you proud". I said hugging her "wow, I have always been wanting to say this to someone". I added and she laughed.
"Quite joking! palli palli! Go you have to pack". She said.
With a sheepish grin on my face, I shrugged and looked at her. " you already did haven't you?". she asked and I nodded.
She rushed towards me, attempting to grab and hit me, but I didn't give her the chance to do so as I started to hurry towards my room. " Eomma! saranghae". I run to my room took my small pink suitcase as i checked myself one last time in the mirror then i headed to school.
Once i arrived to the school gates, i sighed as i take notice of the long hill ahead. I couldn't possibly get both myself and my suitcase up this hill. So I stopped by the gates, only now noticing that there were four military men standing there.
"Why the hell did I bring so many things?". I thought scolding myself. "Should I call Jang-soo and ask for help!". The thought flashed through my mind and then faded away. "Yah! Don't Su-Jinah! You are a strong independent woman, Maintain the integrity of yourself". As I was having a mental battle, a hand reached over me and grabbed my suitcase. "Yah! I got it ". I stated. turning around, I was taken aback by the person standing behind me, because he was the last person I imagined to be helping me.
"Was that your definition for getting it?". Il-Ha responded sarcastically, which took me by surprise. Only I can be sarcastic, especially to myself.
As I finally recovered from my trance, I was ready to snark back but I noticed he started walking ahead of me. I quickly joined him "fine! you can help, but remember I didn't ask for it you offered. So I'm still my own strong independent woman with dignity". I added and he only smirked a little or was it a faint smile ? I don't know ether.
When we got close to our class, he passed my suit back to me, and I mumbled a brief thank you, to which he replied with a nod and started to leave.
"Hey Il-aha!". I called stopping him as I noticed the cut on the bridge of his nose, so I took out a bandage from my back pack and offered it to him.
He only looked at my extended hand with the bandage on it for a few seconds, so I assumed he didn't want to take it since I only now noticed it was pink with some hearts on it. "Fine! Don't take..". However, he cut me off by quickly taking the bandage and thanking me before storming off.
"That was weird!". I thought.
