Mattheo's pov:
I could feel her shaking against my side, as she tried to calm her sobs. I had never comforted anyone, or hugged anyone, or held anyone's hand, so this was a bit awkward for me.

The greenish light seemed to be growing larger at last, and within minutes, the boat had come to a halt, bumping gently into something I couldn't feel at first, but when I raised my illuminated wand I saw that we had reached a small island of smooth rock in the centre of the lake.

"Don't touch the water" I commanded coldly, as I climbed out of the boat, letting Pansy comfort Yn.

The island was an expanse of flat dark stone on which stood nothing but the source of the greenish light, which looked much brighter when viewed close to. I squinted ar it, at first I thought it was a lamp of some kind, but then I saw that the light was coming from a stone basin, which was set on top of a pedestal.

I approached the basin and everyine followed. Side by side we looked down at it. The basin was full of and emerald liquid emitting that phosphorescent glow.

"What is it?" Blaise asked in a whisper.

I stretched out my fingers towards the surface of the potion and put my hand into the basin and attempted to touch the potion. I met an invisible barrier that prevented me coming within an inch of it. No matter how hard I pushed, my fingers encountered nothing but what seemed to be solid inflexible air.

"I cant touch it, I cant approach any nearer than this" I said.

Yn raised her wand, twirled it once in midair and then caught the crystal goblet that she had conjured out of nowhere.

"We have to drink the potion?" Draco asked.
"But what if- what if it kills us?" Theodore asked, worried.
"Voldermort wouldn't want to kill the person who reached this island, not immediately" I said unfazed.

"The potion must act in a way that will prevent the drinker from taking the Horcrux. It might paralyze them, cause them to forget what they are here for, create so much pain thay they are distracted, or make them incapable in some other way. It will be everyone's job to make sure the drinker keeps drinking no matter what. You understand?" I said

We stood there in silence as our eyes met over the basin, each pale and lit with that strange, green light. We were all thinkimg the same thing, but nobody wanted to say ot aloud, scared they would be picked for asking. Finally however we all spoke up.

"Um, who's-" Theodore started
"How do we-" Draco asked
"I dont want-" Blaise said
"Going to-" Enzo said
"Are we-" Pansy said
"I guess if-" Yn said

Everyone sighed. Finally Theodore said the whole question out loud.
"How are we going to choose who drinks the potion?"
"Any volunteers?" I asked, knowing nobody would say anything.
We stayed silent for a minute.
Yn sighed and stepped forward.

"I'll do it"
