Yn pov:
I couldn't tell whether the shivers I was experiencing were due to my spine deep coldness or to the same awareness of enchantments. I watched as Mattheo continued to revolve on the spot, evidently concentrating on things I couldn't see.
Mattheo and I got along well together. We didn't talk much, but during our planning we had gotten to know each other better. He was still cold and evil, but I felt more comfortable around him. He still stared at me sometimes, and that was a bit awkward, as I have no idea why he keeps staring. His face is blank and emotionless, so I cant read his face or guess why he is staring. The way he stares makes shivers go down my spine.
"This is the ante-chamber, the entrance hall" said Mattheo after a moment or two.
"We need to penetrate the inmer place... Now it is Lord Voldermort's obstacles thay stamd in our way, rather than those nature made...."
Mattheo approached the wall of the cave and caressed it with his fingertips, murmuring words in a strange tongue that I couldn't understand.
Twice Mattheo walked right around the cave, touching as much if the rough rock as he could, occasionally pausing, running his fingers backwards and forwards over a particular spot, until finally he stopped, his hand presses flat against the wall.
"Here" he said. "We go through here. The entrance is concealed."
I didnt ask how he knew. I had never seen a wizard work things out like this, simply by looking and touching, but I had long since learned thay bangs and smoke were more often the marks of ineptitude that expertise.
Mattheo stepped back from the cave wall and pointed his wand at the rock. For a moment, an arched outline appeared there, blazing white as though there was a powerful light behind the crack.
"You've d-done it!" I said through chattering teeth, pressed tightly to Pansy's side as we huddled together for warmth. But before the words had left my lips, the outline had gone, leaving the rocks as bare and solid as ever. Mattheo looked around at me in concern. His eyes met mine for a second and he noticed I was dripping wet. His eyes flickered to the others and then down at himself, and he saw that I wasn't the only one. Everyone was huddled together to keep warm.
He pointed his wand at us and then himself. At once our clothes were as warm and dry as if they had been hanging infront of a blazing fire.
"Thank you" I said gratefully, but Mattheo had already turned his attention back to the solid cave wall. He didnt try anymore magic, but simply stood there staring at it intently, as though something extremely interesting was written on it.
We all stayed quiet watching him, not wanting to break his concentration.
Then, after two solid minutes, Mattheo pulled out a emerald pocket knife, and raised it. I flinched at the sudden movement of the knife. There was a flash of emerald, and a slurt of scarlet, the rock face was peppered with dark, glistening drops.
I gasped and rushed forward, gently grabbing his arm, then passed the tip of my wand over the deep cut he had made in his own arm, so that it healed instantly.
I looked up at him, and his chocolate brown eyes met my light green ones. He had been looking at me while I healed his cut. I smiled up at him, and he snatched his arm back, out of my grasp.
"I could have done it myself" he said coldly, looking away.
"I know, but you could still say thank you" I said quietly, almost in a whisper.
He shot me a look, I sighed, and turned away to go back to the others.
The blazing silver outline of an arch had appeared in the wall once more, and this time it did not fade away: the blood-splattered rock eithin simply vanished, leaving an opening inti whay seemed total darkness.
We all walked through the archway lighting our wands hastily as we went. I hesitantly followed already feeling scared. Then I stopped.
"Um, we dont all have to go do we? Can't some of us just wait outside till you come back?" I asked, knowing that they would say no.
"Don't worry, it's gonna be alright" Enzo said as he rubbed my back, smiling down at me.
Pansy then reached down and took my hand in hers comfortingly, and gave me a small smile. I let her pull me forward. Well it was worth a shot, I guess.
An eerie sight met our eyes: we were standing on the edge of a great lake, so vast thay I couldn't make out the distant banks, in a cavern so high that the ceiling, too, was out of sight. A misty greenish light shone far away in what looked like the middle of the lake; it was refleced in the completely still water below. The greenish glow amd the light from the wands were the only thingd that broke the otherwise velvety blackness, though their rays didn't penetrate as far as I would have expected. The darkness was somehow denser than normal darkness.
"Do NOT step in the water" Mattheo said blankly.
We set off around the edge of the lake and I followed, my eyes flickering around, looking for something bad. I gripped onto Pansy's hand as hard as I could, scared to be left alone. She gripped mine back, almost as hard, also scared.
Our footsteps made echoing, slapping sounds on the narrow rim of the rock that surrounded the water. On amd on we walked, but the view didn't vary: on side of them, the rough cavern wall; on the other, the boundless expanse of smooth, glassy blackness, in the very middle of which was that mysterious greenish glow. I found the place and the silence oppressive, unnerving.
"This is probably a stupid question, but couldn't we try a Summoning Charm?" I asked quietly, it was obvious I wanted to get put of here as quickly as possible.
"Hmm, I haven't thought about that" said Mattheo.
"Seems to easy tho" said Draco.
"Wouldn't hurt to try" said Blaise.
"I guess, but what if it does something bad" said Draco.
Blaise ignored him and cleared his throught and said loudly, wand aloft,"Accio Horcrux!"
With a noise like an exposion, something very large amd pale erupted out of thw dark water some 20 feet away; before I could see what it was, it had vanished again with a crashing splash that made great, deep ripples on the mirrored surface. I lept backwards in shock and hit the wall; my heart still thundering.
"The horcrux is in the middle of the lake" I whispered.
"How are we gonna get there?" Pansy asked.
I didnt say anything. My thoughtd were all of watermonsters, of giant serpents, of demons, kelpies and sprites....
"Wait, I think I know how to get across the lake" I said with hope.
"Stand against the wall, please"
I didn't know what I was doing. This patch of dark bank was exactly like every other bit as far as I could tell, but I must have felt something, that is telling me something is special about it.
I was subconsciously running my hand through the thin air, as though expecting to find and grip something invisible.
I gasped seconds later. My hand had closed in midair upon something I, and the others couldn't see.
I moved closer to the water, and everyone else watched nervously as my shoes found the utmost edge of the rock rim. Mattheo rushed forward and grasped my wrist tightly, to make sure I dont fall over the edge.
I kept my hand clenched in midair, and raised my wand with the other, as Mattheo let go of my wrist, still close to me and ready to grab onto me if I fell. I tapped my fist with the point.
Immediately a thick coppery green cain appeared out of thin air, extending from the depths of the water into my clenxhed hand. I tapped the chain, which began to slide through my fist like a snake, coilimg itself on the ground with clicking sound that echoed noisily off the rocky walls, pulling something from the depths if the black water.
We all gasped as the ghostly prow of a tiny boat broke the surface, glowing as green as the chain, and floated, with barely a ripple, towards the place on the bank where we all stood.
"How did you know thay was there?" Mattheo asked in astonishment.
I shrugged my shoulders, not knowing how, myself.
The boat hit the bank with a gemtle bump.
"Is... Is this boat safe?" Draco asked, unable to hide his fear.
"I think so. Voldermort needed to create a means to cross the lake without attracting the wrath of those creatures he had placed within it, in case he ever wanted to visit or remove his horcrux" Mattheo said, still staring at the boat.
