As Cole's bedroom door slammed closed, a thick silence fell over the room.
"Hey, don't mind him" muscle-shirt said finally, "I'm Brody by the way."
I offered him a smile, "hi Brody. As you probably already know, I'm Danny."
Brody grinned. Swiftly though, Ashton's look alike shoved Brody out of the way and offered me a grin of his own.
"I'm Tyson" he informed me, "and I'm single. How about you?"
I laughed and blushed slightly, "um... yeah, I am too."
"Great!" the guy with black shaggy hair cut in, "I'm Jock by the by."
"Guys, leave her alone" Ashton laughed, "after what she's been through today, I think she has bigger things on her mind than hooking up with one of you three idiots on her first night here. For example, she's probably thinking more about how much she would love to make us her famous fettuccine Alfredo... right Dan?"
I narrowed my eyes at him, "was that supposed to be a clever way to ask me to make you guys dinner without actually asking? After all I've been through, this is how you welcome me?!"
I was totally kidding and Ashton knew it too. Truthfully, I loved cooking. Apparently, Ashton's roommates didn't know that though.
"Please don't be mad! We can totally make our own dinners!" Brody exclaimed.
After a moment, I looked to Ashton. By the look on his face, I could tell he was thinking the same thing as me. This was going to be fun....
"So, you're going to make yourself dinner but you won't make any for me?" I raised an eyebrow.
"No, no! Of course we're going to make some for you too! What should we make?" Tyson asked.
"Now you expect me to just know what ingredients you people have and figure out what you can make with it?" I fake gasped.
"Oh, no, of course not!" Jock jumped in.
"I don't believe you for one second" I said hotly, "you're going to have to get down on your knees and beg forgiveness."
I watched in amusement as all three guys dropped to there knees before me, terrified expressions on there faces. Turning to Ashton and seeing that his face was red with the effort of containing his laughter, I couldn't hold it in any longer. I burst out laughing, taking in the now confused expression on the boys faces.
"You- you didn't actually... think I was- was.... serious, did you?" I managed to get out through giggles.
"Wait, you mean..." Brody started.
"Of course I'm fine with making dinner... I mean... what do you think I am? Some kind of pampered... diva?" I tried to regain my breath.
"Oh" was all Tyson said.
"Well played new girl. It's really not that hard to trick those three idiots though, so don't get too full of yourself."
I spun to see Cole leaning against a door frame. His face was neutral but it looked almost as if that was to cover up a smile that wanted to make it's way onto his lips.
"Well, look who's back" Ashton retorted.
"I heard something about dinner so I came up. I stayed to watch the show" Cole shrugged before turning to me, "so, what are you making? I'm hungry so you need to work fast."
"Fettuccine Alfredo. Is that alright with you, your majesty?" I mock bowed.
Cole narrowed his eyes, sending me an ice cold glare, "oh, go to the kitchen where you belong!"
I felt my eyes widen as my fist instinctively clenched. I took a step toward Cole, but a warm hand wrapped itself tightly around my wrist, holding me back.
"Awe, come on Ash! Let her have at him! He deserves what's coming anyways..." Brody complained.
Ashton's grip on my arm loosened slightly but didn't let up.
"Yeah, let her coma at me" Cole said smugly, "I'd love to see her hit me with her best shot."
I turned to Ashton and smiled sweetly, "see, Cole says it's alright."
Ashton pursed his lips for a second before sighing and glancing at Cole, "it's your funeral man."
He let go of my arm and I took two short steps toward Cole. In one swift motion, I brought my fist up to connect with his face in a right hook. I heard his grunt of pain. Everything fell silent.
"Yeah you did!" Tyson cheered.
Cole cupped his face with his hand, now sending me a death glare. He was going to have a nice shiner soon.
"Learn some manners" I spat before turning on my heel and making my way up yet another set of stairs towards what I hoped was the kitchen.
