Not spotting Cole in the living room, dining room, or kitchen, I sighed and scratched the back of my head. Slowly, I began making my way upstairs to the guys rooms, almost afraid to find him now. I didn't even want to think about what I might walk in on... I frowned in surprise though as I checked. All the bedrroms were empty as well. That only left two options, A: Cole had left the house at some point, and B: Cole was in our room. Seeing as Cole was the one who's thrown the party, neither option really made sense, but I guess the second one was the only reasonable answer, right? I shrugged, not really knowing what else to do, and started down our murderous number of stairs. Soon enough, I found myself standing in front of mine and Cole's spotless white door. I paused for a moment, debating whether I should knock or just try the door to see if it was even still locked. I'd decided to knock and was about to do so when a strange noise from inside the room caused me to once again pause. I leaned into the door a bit to make sure I wasn't just hearing things. Was someone inside crying?
"Cole?" I murmered softly, "are you in there?"
There were a few moments of silence and then, "Idiot, if you have Caleb with you and you two were planning on coming in here to get down and dirty, I am so not opening that door."
The strong teasing sound to Cole's voice made me question for a moment whether or not it had been cring I'd heard a minute ago.
"No Cole" I said as softly as I could, "it's just me. Can I come in?"
Again, there was a pause, "fine... just give me a second..."
When the door swung open, I had to stifle my gasp. Cole had bags under his puffy red eyes and the bruise colouring his cheek and jaw seemed even more prominent against his colour drained face.
"Uh,, you... uh" I stuttered trying- and failing miserably- to pretend I didn't notice the state he was in.
"Look like crap?" Yeah, I figured..." Cole stepped out of the way, allowing me entrance into the room.
I quietly walked in and took a seat on my bed, watching Cole as he relocked the door and went over to his own. Instead of sitting down on it though, he sat down on the floor and leaned against it, his comforter acting as a pillow.
"So, did you discover that Prince Caleb wasn't exactly to your liking so you'd hide from him for the rest of the night?" Cole raised his eyebrows.
"Um... not exactly. Some jerk spilled his drink all over Keelie and Caleb so they went to her place to change" I explained.
Cole smirked, " Ah, now that your friends are gone, you don't want to have to face the party alone?"
A sheepish smile played at my lips, "sort of..."
Cole shook his head, grinning, before laying it back against his matress and closing my eyes. I gulped loudly and shifted in my spot. I'd been alone with Cole before but this was... different. Usually when I was alone with Cole, we were both asleep which didn't leave much room for socializing, and the onl;y other time I'd been alone with him was when he'd driven me home and I'd been so mad at him at that point that I'd turned up the radio and pointedly ignored him.
Without any real, concious decision, my eyes started to travel Cole's body. I had to admit, he was incrediby good looking, but not perfect. That's what made him look even better though; those slight imperfections he had. His sweeping blond hair fell into his eyes, tangling with his beautiful, long lashes, but if you looked closely, there was an extremely faint scare just under his right eye. It was barely noticable, but it was there. His mouth was alluring, curved and full, but when he grinned, one side of it would turn up more than the other. Lopsided. As my eyes continued to run over him all I could think was that I shouldn't be staring...
"You hungry?" Cole asked suddenly.
My eyes snapped back to his face as his fluttered open.
"Yeah, I guess, but won't you have to go upstairs for food?" I asked.
A grin spread across his face, "ah, young Idiot, you are so naive. When you have three room mates also devouring the food in the house, you learn to hide a stash of your own personal stuff. To be honest though, I'm surprised you haven't found it yet."
"Why... where is it?" I questioned.
"In the bathroom closet."
I gave him a funny look. There was a closet in the bathroom? Cole rolled his eyes and got up, motioning for me to follow. He lead me into the bathroom and pointed to a smaller wooden door.
"What did you think was in there?" he raised an eyebrow.
I smiled sheepishly, "I don't know... I was too afraid to check. You never know what lurks behind closed doors..."
Cole was trying to hide his grin, "trust me, it's nothing scary."
He opened the door and I was impressed to find a minifridge and a small shelf packed with food.
"Want some tortilla chips? It's the best I've got snack wise at the moment."
I considered this, "sure, but do you happen to have any Frank's Red Hot Sauce?"
Cole gave me a look of surprise, "as a matter of fact, I do."
I grabbed the chips while Cole got the sauce from the minifridge and together we made our way back into the room. We sat down on the floor and ripped open the chips. It was kind of annoying because we had no plates so we had to pour the sauce onto each individual chip as we ate, but it tasted divine.
I swallowed my chip and looked up at Cole, my mouth already starting to pleasantly burn from the hot sauce, "you know Cole, there's something about you I don't understand; something I can't figure out."
Cole glanced at his hands, "trust me, there's a lot you don't know about me."
"No I mean, I can't figure out whether or not... well, whether or not you hate me" I shifted slightly.
Cole paused, looking me directly in the eyes, "well, to be perfectly honest with you-"
