I gave myself a once over in the mirror. This just might work...

"Where'd you get the jacket" I asked.

"My sister left it here after her last visit" Jock shrugged.

"Your sister?" I questioned.

"Yeah, Heather. She's in university" Jock explained.

I took one last glance in the mirror. The long, dress like t-shirt looked almost normal now that the belt was around my waist and I had the jacket on.

I smiled at Jock, "well, I should probably get to work now."

I grabbed my wallet and pulled out my bus pass. I called out a goodbye to anyone who was listening and headed off to work. It only took me about twenty minutes to get there so I was thankfully a little bit early. I walked in the back door and greeted a few of my co-workers as I made my way through the kitchen towards the waitress apron rack. I unhooked mine, grabbed my name tag from its drawer and got myself an order book and a pen.

"Good morning sunshine!" someone called from behind me.

I grinned and turned around, "hey!"

My ever cheery boss stood behind me, his green eyes sparkling.

"Ready to work?" he asked.

"As ready as ever, Robbie" I laughed.

"Great, cause there is a trouble maker at table three who keeps sending the food back and yelling at poor Mark" Robbie sighed.

"I'm on it" I smiled reassuringly.

I wrapped my apron around myself and headed towards the table, trying to scope out the situation as I got closer. My heart almost jumped out of my chest when I saw the mop of brown hair that looked so much like my own.

"Dad?" I asked incredulously.

He turned in his seat and smiled, "I knew Robbie would send you over here eventually."

I frowned, "what do you want?"

My dad's smile faded, "well, I-I came to tell you that I have a bunch of your stuff in my trunk... I was kind of hoping I could talk you into coming back though. I know you don't like Stacey but you have to understand, she makes me happy. Dan, I haven't felt this way since your mother."

I sighed, "Dad, I understand perfectly. Happiness is an important thing to have."

"Great cause-"

"Which is why I can't move back in. I understand that your happiness is important and I'm glad you found it, but I also have to take my own happiness into account for once."

"I was afraid this would happen. In that case, I want to at least help you out. despite what you may think, you're still my daughter and I do love you. I want to continue to pay for your cellphone and I also want to send you a monthly allowance to go towards any extras you might need" he explained.

I nodded slowly, "thanks, I would really appreciate that."

"Well, I'll get out of your hair now and let you get back to work. I love you hun" he pulled me into a half hug.

When I was younger, I would have immediately replied, 'I love you too' but for some reason, now I couldn't bring myself to say it.

Instead I replied, "you too Dad."

He gave me a small smile before exiting the diner. I took a moment to collect myself and get my brain to start working again before plastering a smile on my face, grabbing the money my dad had left and starting to clean the table.

By the time it reached five o'clock and my shift ended I was about ready to strangle someone. There was a kid at table four who would throw food at me every time I walked past and I was pretty sure I now had potatoes in my hair. I bid Robbie goodbye as I exited the diner and made my way back towards the bus stop. This time, it took me over half an hour to travel between work and the condo because my bus was delayed and then I had to get off on a bus stop that was further away from the one I'd used before do to the fact that the bus changed routes halfway through the ride. I walked inside and dropped my bag near the door, thankful that the boys had had an extra house key for me. I made my  way up the stairs, searching for everyone. the second I smelled the smoke, I started to panic. I bolted up the stairs towards the kitchen.

"What's going on?" I exclaimed as I rushed in.

Tyson, Brody, Jock and Ashton all stood around the oven looking kind of hilarious actually. For some reason Tyson had oven mitts on both his hands and his head. Brody wore a flowery apron and held a wooden spoon in one hand, looking like he'd been about to hit Jock with it before I barged in. Jock was absolutely covered in flour and had something that looked a lot like ketchup drizzled on his shoulder. Ashton also had an apron on except his had 'kiss the chef' scrawledacross it. He had wet hair and part of an egg dripping down his face.

"Uh... we're making dinner?" Ashton questioned more than answered.

I grinned, "and, uh, what exactly are you making?"

"That's a good question" Tyson muttered.

I shook my head, "here, let me help you."
